Strawberry Sauce with that 99

Congratulations and commiseration to James Sutton on just missing out on a ton with a superb 99 on Saturday for the Twos.

The ones were home to RACS and were put into bat by the opposition.  The team got off to a reasonable start (Adam Larking 32) and at 95 for 3 looked to have a good platform but a couple of quick wickets swung the match back towards the visitors.  Joe Mills then joined Lee Taylor (38) in the middle dispatching the ball to all parts of the ground scoring a fine 55.   With 8 overs remaining and the score on 170 it had the making of a 200+ innings would be posted. However, 5 wickets for 4 runs meant the visitors were left with 184 target.

After tea Alex Ward (2 for 35) got the team of to the perfect start with two wickets in his opening over. RACS steadied themselves but Joshua Hunt (3 for 41) and MatthewRoche (3 for 20 off 15 overs). More good bowling from Ricky Dale (8 overs for 22) and Tyler Wassell (5 overs for 23) kept the pressure on but the opposition crept closer to the total. An inspired bowling change saw Joe Mills pick up two wickets in two balls and Josh returned to take the final wicket leaving RACS 24 runs short.

The twos travelled to Westgate.  With both teams on similar points a tough game was expected.  Bapchild won the toss and on a extremely hot afternoon wisely elected to bat.   James Sutton and Simon Cosstick got the team off to a good start passing the 50 mark around the 12 over mark before Simon holed out. James continued on supported by Mark Forshaw and Nick Page and when joined by Simon Harrison that runs start to pile on.  Both James and Simon (57) passed their personal 50’s as the team swept through the 200 run mark.  James was joined by Tony Hadfield (21) and in an unselfish attitude holed out on a fantastic 99 while trying to to keep the score moving.   A great team performance saw the twos reach a season best of 254 for 9 at the end of their allotted 46 overs.

After tea Westgate started strongly despite some good bowling by Michael Neame and Harry Mantle.   With a change of bowling saw a change of fortune for the home team as James Weller removed one of the openers through a superb one handed running catch by Simon Harrison. His celebration was even better which looked at one stage would involve him running around the complete boundary.  After drinks James continued to remove the top order picking up and excellent 5 for 53 while the Chairman did his best to take the pressure off the home team with an expensive short spell !!.  An excellent spell from Mark Forshaw who came on to support James from the other end saw the home team needing over 8 an over for the last 20 overs.  Michael Neame (3 for 35) returned to pick up some good bowling (with the odd ball going down the two strips to the left !)  Harry rejoined the attack to pick up the last wicked with the home team falling 47 runs short.

The three’s game was conceded by Yalding Town

The Sunday KVL game was also conceded by Town Malling
