Only The Thirds Escape the Rain

July Flooded Pitch

Only the 3rd XI managed to beat the rain this weekend

The first team had the weekend off as Hawkinge had resigned from the league.

The second team’s home match against Minster was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch

The third team however travelled to Hunton and were put into bat by the opposition.  Wickets fell early until Tony Hadfield arrived at the crease missing once again on his maiden fifty by just seven runs.  Anthony Burbury followed in Tony’s steps scoring 44  before running out of partners with the score on 139 off 43 overs.

After tea the opening bowlers (Sam Hewitt 4 for 47, Owen Harrison 2 for 38) did their job picking up wickets supported well by Jamie Blackbrow (first bowl of the season) 7 overs for 19, Anthony Burbury 5 overs for 15 and Tom Fox 2 overs for 9.    However, Hunton managed to crossed the line in the 35th over with 4 wickets to spare with only two batsman scoring double figures but unfortunately they were helped with the joint top scorer, Eddie XTRAS, of 50 .    A great effort by all against a very good side

The Sunday 1st XI travelled to Littlebourne and electing to bowl had the home team 80 for 5 off 21 overs which saw some superb fielding including three catches by Steve Roberts as Barry Wood brought his wickets !!!  Unfortunately the rain won again and the game called off after an early tea without another ball being bowled.

The Sunday 2nd XI game was conceded by the club which probably saved one or two players drowning  as flash flooding hit Sittingbourne late afternoon
