Good Efforts All Round

bcc-bg1

The weekend saw the Bapchild teams putting good efforts but unfortunately just coming up short.

The ones travelled to High Halstow and elected to bat on what looked liked a green wicket. Although picking up an early wicket some strong cross batting on a short boundary saw the home team start racking on the runs. Wickets did fall but the aggressive batting continued right through to the last ball of the match when Bapchild picked up the 10 wicket with the score on 277. Best of the bowling coming from Adam Rayner 4 for 64 and Tyler Wassell 2 for 61.

Early wickets did help the run chase (although Adam Larking looked good in his new Bapchild CC clothing – available through the on-line shop !!!!!) but despite a fine mid-order effort from Simon Harrison 39, Ricky Dale 38, Captain Lee Cogger 37 and Cameron Archbold 26 meant that the Bapchild fell 87 runs short but earned a respectable losing draw.

The twos entertained Old Williamsonians and electing to bowl got off to a flying start with good bowling from Michael Neame (4 for 36) and Owen Harrison (3 for 33) with the visitors finding themselves 4 for 28. The odd wicket fell including an excellent one stump run out from Tony Hadfield to remove their main batsman. James Weller kept the pressure on with 12 overs for 26 but Old Wiliamsonians crept up to 155 losing their final wicket on the last ball of the innings.

A good start from William Cosstick (32) and Tom Carey (18) build a good platform. Slightly behind the run rate pressure mounted but Mark Forsham (42) looked liked Bapchild would see it home but a few quick wickets the task looked too great. A small cameo at the end from James Weller and Captain for the day, the Chairman, meant that we ended up just 9 runs short but everyones effort meant the twos gained full bonus points for batting and bowling.

The Threes had a week off this week

The Sunday first team travelled to top of the league Wingham with a “young” team (if you exclude the Chairman, Barry Wood and Ricky Dale!). The home team elected to bat on what turned out to be a damp and lively wicket. Barry Wood (1 for 32) and Ricky Dale (0 for 18) took advantage and kept Wingham to 50 off the first 20 overs. James Weller again bowled well (2 for 28) and Wassell Tyler picking up another two at the death saw the home team struggle to 158.

Tom Carey (31) and Chris Hogg (20) got the team off to a good start. Unfortunately a few quick wickets put Bapchild under pressure but good knocks from Jamie Blackbrow (26), Cameron Archbold (18) and Harry Mantle (15) put us almost across the line needing just 6 off the last two overs. Unfortunately good bowling meant the team fell short by 4 runs and missing out to go top of the league.
