The Ones had a great win at the weekend over top of the league Leeds and Broomfield.
Winning the toss the visitors put Bapchild into bat. The opening pair of Lee Taylor (39) and Josh Hunt (28) built a good platform while seeing off the new ball but a change off bowling saw four wickets fall. Skipper Lee Cogger (31) and Cameron Archbold (32) then put on an important 5th wicket stand of 58. At six overs to go the team found themselves on 155 but with 5 important wickets remaining it allowed Matt Lewis (24 no) supported by Matthew Roche (12) to bat freely scoring an excellent 54 runs in the remaining overs.
With the target set at 209 (for 9) it was important that Bapchild bowled well and took early wickets. Leeds attacked from start reaching 28 for none off the first 6 overs until 3 consecutive wickets maidens turned the game on its end. The opening spell from Joshua Hunt (2 for 22 off 10 overs) and Adam Rayner (2 for 25 off 10 overs) meant Leeds had only reached 48 after 20 overs. The visitors consolidated before Rick Dale (1 for 18) removed their seasons top scorer with a ball that pitched 8 inches outside off and ripped to hit leg stump. Leeds shut up shop 20 overs out with five wickets standing but an excellent run out from Adam Larking and the introduction of our death bowling specialist Tyler Wassell who lived up to reputation picking up 3 for 10 off 7 overs left Bapchild requiring one wicket to pick up a full 20 points. Joshua Hunt was brought back into the attack and going for 16 in one over looked like he was trying to buy the wicket !!! However on the second ball of the last over his return was justified as he picked up his third wicket to win the match. An excellent performance by all the team in the field, bowling and batting means that at the half way stage through the season we are in 4th place and only 22 pts off promotion.
The Twos were less fortunate in the double header as they travelled to Leeds and Broomfield in the Kent Regional match. Electing to bat they found themselves facing a strong attack and after losing two quick wickets the team rallied briefly Robert Kennett (14), Nick Page (14) and Mark Forshaw (22) but wickets continued to fall. Michael Neame (13) and Harry Mantle (10) put a last ditch stand but to no avail as Bapchild found themselves all out for 76.
Leeds made short work to knock off the runs and apart from a caught and bowled from Michael Neame the home cruised home by 9 wickets off 13 overs.
The threes travelled to top three Frindsbury and after being put into bat got off to a good start with debutant Paul Gilbert scoring his maiden 50 for the club. Supported by Tony Hadfield (31), Sam Hewitt (36) and Steve Hogg (22) the team made a respectable 185 for 9 off their allotted overs.
After tea the team bowled well but losing two fielders who had to leave early due to other commitments meant they always were going to struggle. Fine bowling by Owen Harrison (3 for 39) supported by Anthony Burbury (2 for 17), Ben Cooper (1 for 28) and Shiv Patel (1 for 26) meant the home team only reached their target after 36 overs and 8 wickets down.
The Sunday 2nd XI’s game was cancelled by the opposition
