KVL: BARRY RECLAIMS OPENING BOWLING SPOT (oh and two others get a ton and one takes 7 wkts!)

Left to Right: Dylan Lee (104 no), Ricky Dale (7 for 31), Steve Roberts (100 no) and Barry Wood who opened the bowling (1 for 33)

Bapchild’s KVL team got off to a flying start in their first game of the season away to Selsted.

Having won the toss and electing to bat, Joe Cooper, just back from University, opened with Steve Roberts who stepped in for Josh Hunt who had been delayed running an Under 12 Swale District game. A very solid start from the openers saw the score move onto 51 off 13 overs before Joe played on. Steve was joined by Dylan Lee and both kept the pace steady reaching 93 at the half way mark. With a great platform they started to push on before exploding with 81 runs off 5 overs. The run rate continued stay as Dylan passed the 100 mark with two overs to go. Steve needed 9 for his maiden century as the 40th over started – reaching it with a ball to spare.

An excellent show of batting with the team reaching 260 for 1 with Dylan 104 not out and Steve 100 not out.

After tea Barry Wood rolled back the years to return to his rightful place opening the bowling with Harry Mantle. Barry’s pin point bowling should have picked up a couple of early wickets but difficult chances and a catch behind turned down meant Barry had to take a low diving catch of his own bowling to pick up his first wicket of the campaign.

Ricky Dale took over from Harry and quickly got into the wickets helped by a fine stumping by Joe Cooper. Ricky picked up three more wickets in one over and continued picking up regular wickets to end his exceptional 9 over spell with 7 for 31. Owen Harrison bowled well picking up a wicket in his last over with a good catch from his father Simon. Harry was brought back and picked up the final wicket with the team bowling Selsted out for 128.

An excellent start to the 2014 KVL campaign

Elsewhere over the weekend the 1st team game was conceded by the opposition. The twos came up just short against Minster and the three’s lost to Snodland.
