Bapchild 2s get Off to a Good Start

John Healey (76*) and Nick Page (28) chasing down 182

Bapchild’s 2nd XI got off to a good start to the league season on a windy and damp Saturday.

Winning the toss new skipper Nick Page elected to bowl. An early catch from behind the stumps by Tom Carey off Michael Naeme got the team off to a good start but after the second wicket fell at 60 a good stand of 70 runs for the third wicket looked like Holborough might post a big total. However, good bowling from Alan Hampton (2 for 37) and Mike Naeme at the death meant the visitors were kept to a respectable 182 for 6 at the end of their allotted 46 overs.

An excellent opening stand 82 from Simon Cosstick (41) and John Heatley (76 not out) at the half way point put the home team in the driving seat. After a short break for the weather John went on to bat through with support from Nick Page (28), Alan Hampton (13) and Chris Hogg (10) to see the twos chalk up the first win of the season by six wickets in the 43rd over.

The first team fell foul of the weather in their away game to Bromley Town. A constantly rain affected match saw Bromley score 160 for 3 off 48 overs before the weather became the only winner and the game being abandoned. Good bowing from all round with Josh Hunt 9 overs for 23, Tyler Wassell 7 overs for 28, Harry Mantle 6 overs for 17, Matthew Roche 15 overs for 30, Ricky Dale 5 overs for 26 and Steve Roberts picking up 1 for 33 of 6 overs was good to see the bowlers sticking to the task in difficult conditions.

The third team unfortunately had their game cancelled as opponents Belnor conceded earlier in the week.
