Congratulations to the 2nd Xi as the weekend results meant they are promoted to Kent League Division 3 next season.

As a sign of a true promotion team they ground out a good win when they were up against it.  Entertaining High Halstow the team elected to bat and after a reasonable start (Linc Bryden 20, Nathan Glazier 18) struggled as they and the remainder of the top order were removed.  James Weller (35) and Ben Ryder (19) added to the score but the team found themselves 128 for 6 – Lee Cogger (22) bat with conviction supported by Ethan Collier (17) and Anthony Burbury (13) as they ground out a score of 207.

After tea the team put on the pressure from the outset with Alan Hampton bowling extremely tight (1 for 18 off 10 overs).  Ben Ryder supported well (0 for 28 off 9 overs) as did all the bowlers (Lee Cogger 1 for 32) Linc Bryden (2 for 31) Shiv Patel (2 for 40) which meant the opposition fell 32 runs short at the close.

There are still three games to play and hopefully they can continue their rich form and go on to be well deserved Champions

The 1st XI were away to High Halstow in the weekends double header and were put into the field – Jake Mitchell (1 for 35) picked up an early wicket with the score on 29. Unfortunately the Maurice brothers dug in and proved hard to budge putting on a 2nd wicket partnership of 87 William Cosstick (2 for 26) made the break through and picking up a second shortly afterwards in a fine spell.  Ricky Dale (5 for 52) bowled well and was supported by Joshua Hunt (10 for for 38).  Owen Harrison returned to attack picking up 2 for 40 and with Jame Longhurst (2 for 32) meant the home team were bowled out in the 50th over for 230.

Adam Larking in only his second game of the season open with a solid 49 just missing out on his half century but unfortunately wickets fell regularly around him.  Matt Lewis (30) looked to steady the ship and after he was out Owen Harrison’s quick fire 28 supported  by Josh Hunt (21) the team hope but they fell 60 runs short in the 44th over

The 3rd XI travelled to Gravesend and chose to field.  Daniel Gunner and Ella Hadler bowled well but couldn’t break through the opening pair.  Steve Pumfrett and Thomas Taylor joined the attack and again bowled well but at drinks the opposition were 130 for 0.  After the break the openers started hitting out but Ella Hadler on her return stuck to the task and was finally rewarded with a good catch from Callum Harrison.  Cometh the hour cometh the Chairman playing in his first game of the season (yes Mrs Hadler they were very very short!!!) who went for 14 in three balls as he softened the other opener before bowling an un-playable ball and the batsman lofting a simple catch to Daniel Gunner ………….. Ok it was a rank full toss, miss hit with an excellent catch of a skied ball (with Ice on it) in the swirling winds….. but the Chairman is the editor !!  Ella (2 for 66) picked up a second wicket as did the Chairman (2 for 25) before Daniel Gunner (1 for 54) returned with Tom Taylor and finished of the innings as Gravesend reached 232 for 6.

After tea Captain Eric Philips set out his stall scoring 5 off the first 3 balls but as wickets fell including 4 in 5 balls he decided to reduce his strike rate scoring 12 run off his next 103 balls he faced.  Unfortunately apart from Steve Pumfrett (21) no other batsman scored double figures as the team was bowled out for 80

The Sunday XI entertained Staplehurst in their Kent Village League game. The opposition elected to field on a damp picture but Owen Harrison (23), James Sutton (23) got the team off to a good start and Ben Ryder (51 no) and Ricky Dale (32 no) got the team to 170 for 4 off a reduce weather delayed 35 over innings.

Oscar Hird (1 for 24) bowled well picking up an early wicket but a second wicket partnership put the visitors in the driving seat and despite some wickets towards the end (Ricky Dale 2 for 20, Anthony Burbury 1 for 15 , James Weller 1 for 3) the opposition reached the total in the 31st over
