Sophie Hogben returned figures of 5 for 27 to pick up her first 5 wicket haul at senior level.
The 1st XI travelled to Borstal and elected to field. Tyler Wassell (2 for 28) picked up an early wicket supported by Haris Khan (5 overs 0 for 21) but the home team’s top order battled through until Ricky Dale (1 for 35) and a run out from Tom Carey removed the two danger men. Wickets fell regularly thereafter with Joe Mills (3 for 27), harry Mantle (1 for 35) and Matt Lewis (1 for 7) all picking up wickets as Borstal reached 174 for 9 off their allotted 45 overs.
Unfortunately only 3 players made double figures in reply namely Matt Lewis (37), James Weller (23) and Tyler Wassell (23) as the team found themselves being bowled out in the 37th over just 29 runs short.
The 2nd XI entertained a very strong Bettshanger team and again decided to put the opposition in to bat in a reduced weather affected 35 over match. The visitors top order batted strongly but the team kept to the task restricting them to 185 for 7 at the end of their innings. Charlie Wash (2 for 42) picking up a brace with Ben Wiebe-Williams, Ethan Collier, Adam Rayner and Tony Hadfield all picking up one.
In reply Bapchild started slowly and at 3 wickets down looked down and out but Charlie Wash (32), Paul Surridge (36), Toby Heather (23) and a swash buckling 13 from Lee Taylor returning after a two year lay-off put the game in reach. Unfortunately it was not to be as the team were bowled for 158 in the 34th over.
The 3rd XI were away to Rainham and not to be out done by the other two teams, after Captain Linc Bryden actually won the toss, put the opposition into bat.
Although the young opening batting pair of Rainham played some excellent shots, Lincoln (8 overs for 0 for 25) and Jay Sharma (6 overs 0 for 23) did their best to restrict them to just over 3 runs per over. However as they failed to make a breakthrough it was left to golden arm Sophie Hogben to break the deadlock, dismissing their star opening batsman. With the other opening batsman riding his luck, Sophie continued to toil away, picking up wickets at regular intervals. She was ably supported by Ella Hadler (1 for 18), Glen (1for 17), whose wicket came from a one handed stunner of a catch by Thiyagu Shanmugam. Sophie was the star of the show, finishing with 5-27, her first senior five wicket haul. Rainham finished with 171-8, which was always going to be a challenging total.
In reply, Baphild knew that the run chase heavily depended on the top order. Chris Woods started brightly crunching his first ball for 4. However, when he was bowled in the second over, Bapchild’s task grew harder.
Glen (17) started brightly playing some lovely strokes but was dismissed by an absolute seed. So it was left to Caleb Deverson to restore some order and take the team to a respectable total. With a mixture of luck and excellent stroke play he achieved his highest senior score of 38. At the other end, batsmen came and went and Bapchild finished their 40 overs on 118-8
The Sunday XI did not have a game this weekend.
