OVERVIEW
The Club has a strong junior section with over 70 colts boys and girls enjoying to play cricket in a friendly and safe environment. We run 5 age groups U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16 and play competitive league cricket for the U12s and above. The section is run by our Junior Manager Richard Archbold who with his Lead Coaches and a team of over 10 ECB qualified coaches ensure that the boys and girls receive the best training in order to maximise their enjoyment of the game.
The Junior Section is extremely important to our club and much of our funding goes to providing equipment and investing in training coaches and young leaders. Many of our former juniors now play in the senior teams and are indeed coaches for the section. In the region of 80% of players representing the club at senior level are either former juniors, coaches, parents of juniors or they are still juniors !. In 2010 we started a Saturday 3rd XI to ensure as our juniors became too old to play in the Swale Development League they had opportunity to still play cricket.
In 2012, for the first time in the club’s history, we were able to field an all girls team, the Butterflies, in a tournament and they entered the U9 league the following season.
And in 2018 for the first time in the Club’s 234 year history had females representing the Club at Senior Level
Many of our juniors represent the District and County level at U10, U12 and U16 age groups
Every coach is a volunteer and we are very lucky that they give up their time to pass on their skills to the next generation of crickets
We received the ECB Clubmark accreditation in 2010 which means the Club operates to a key set of core criteria and has in place good practice to ensure that we can deliver high quality community cricket in an environment that is safe, effective and child friendly.
Nets and coaching take place by ECB Qualified coaches spread over two days. Boys and Girls aged between 6 -14 years of age train on Saturday mornings from 9am until 10.30am with lots of fun games and exercise as well as learning techniques, fielding position, rules and etiquette. Our 15 to 16 year olds (U16s) train Tuesday nights from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.
All training is held at the Ground
During the winter we hold indoor nets between February and April.
We run 3 mixed junior teams that play in the Swale Development Leagues with matches on Sunday mornings and weekday evenings. One U12, one U14 and one U16 team all playing the hard ball form of the game and we also have an all girls team that plays in a regional competition as well as entering U10’s tournament so children under the age of 10 can play competitive cricket and learn from an early age the joys of team sports using soft windballs. Our U8s do not play competitive cricket.
Our teams our:
U16 Bapchild Bulldogs
U14 Bapchild Bears
U12 Bapchild Broncos
U10 Bapchild Bantams
In addition to the League matches friendly matches are arranged on an occasional basis to provide as much cricket as possible for the young players of the future.
Bapchild Cricket Club welcomes all children from 6 – 16* and we aim to provide a focus for the local community. Our goal is to provide cricket for all its members regardless of ace, nationality, ethnicity, religion or other beliefs, age, ability, disability, sex, sexual orientation or economic circumstances and other social pursuits.
