Saturday saw the club return to winning ways with two wins and a winning draw
The 1st XI travelled to Darfordians in their Kent Cricket League match. On winning the toss elected Bapchild elected to bat but unfortunately wickets fell regularly. Matt Lewis (17 off 62 balls) and a very mature knock from Tom Carey (32) put up some resistance but the team found themselves all out for 117 in the 40th over.
The home team had 60 overs to reach the target and started steady but 2 wickets from Owen Harrison (3 for 35) made the initial break through. Great bowling from Alan Hampton (3 for 20 off 17 overs) and Ricky Dale (3 for 26 off 14.2 overs) kept the pressure on the batting team and they found themselves all out 10 runs short of the target in the 55th over.
The 2nd XI entertained Shooters Hill and after a delayed start due to traffic conditions were put into bat by the visitors. An early wicket saw Dan Pumfrett (45) join John Heatley (46) in the middle and put on an excellent 100 run partnership. Shooters Hill thought they were back in when they took removed both of them but a very mature but quick fire 66 from Michael Willis in 49 minutes supported by Nick Page (40) and Joe Mills (30) saw the team put on a very impressive 150 runs in the last 16 overs. The team finished their innings on 272 for 6.
Tyler Wassell (4 for 53) put pressure on early picking up regular wickets and with Glenn Kennett (2 for 39) removing the opener, supported by James Weller (2 for 20) it looked like the 2s would pick up full points. However it wasn’t to be as the visitors held on with just one wicket standing as they finished their 46 overs on 204.
The 3rd XI was at home to Lenham and elected to bat. Simon Cosstick (87) and Nathan Glazier (33) got the team off to a great started and with support from William Cosstick (17), James Elkin (16) and Ethan Collier (10) the team reached a respectable 181 for 8.
The visitors got off to a good start but Ashley Bax (1 for 30) and Shiv Patel (2 for 28) removed the openers. Michael Neame was brought on and told to bowl at the toes unfortunately he thought they meant his own as his first ball pitched two feet in front of his. The second ball missed the batsman stump by just 15 feet before he went on to take 3 for 27. The team bowled and fielded well as the away team were still 9 runs short of the total at the end of their 40 overs with 4 wickets still standing.
The Sunday XI travelled to Egerton and were put into bat and Michael Willis (33) and James Weller (32) got the team off to a flying start with 69 run opening partnership. The home team bowled well and Bapchild continued to build a good platform with Ricky Dale (39) and James Sutton (26) but despite Lincoln Bryden’s (24 no) at the end were unable to really capitalise as they reached 193 for 8 off their 40 overs.
a good start and a century from Egerton’s opener meant the pressure was never put on the home team and they reached the target in the 31st over for the loss of just two wickets
