Chairman Left Dry as All Three Teams Celebrate Wins !

bcc-bg1

All three Saturday teams came out on top at the weekend

The 1st XI entertained Kings Hill in a mid-table clash.  Electing to bat Bapchild lost early wickets but a solid 46 from Lee Taylor who batted well while struggling with an eye injury laid down a platform but as wickets continued to fall it took a wag from the tail from Luke Whitehouse (21) and Tyler Wassell (12 no) to reach 156 as the team was bowled out  in the 33rd over.

After tea Owen Harrison (4 for 18) broke through the opening partnership then captain Ricky Dale (5 for 26) stepped up picking up a five wicket haul removed the remaining top order. Luke Whitehouse (1 for 37) together with Owen finished off the tail as the visitors found themselves all out for 128 in the 35th over

The 2XI travelled to Shooters Hill for their game with Rob Kennett standing in as captain for the day.  The home team elected to field and Rob (29) and John Heatley (22) got the innings off to a good start putting on a 43 opening stand.  Joe Mills (77) fresh from his holiday added to the score supported by James Weller (24).  Wickets fell regularly after that but with a very useful 18 runs from Ethan Collier at number 11 the team reached a very respectable 194 for 8 in their allotted overs.

In similar style the home team got off to a good start despite good tight bowling from Ashley Bax (7 overs 0 for 16) and Ethan Collier (7 overs 0 for 27). Joe Mills (10 overs 1 for 10)  got the break through with the score on 67 and despite the team going down to 10 men after Glenn Kennett picked up a bad hand injury going for a catch, wickets began to tumble. Adam Rayner (3 for 18), William Cosstick (3 for 31) and James Weller (2 for 45) saw Shooters Hill bowled out for 160 runs in the 45th over.  We all wish Glenn a speedy recovery.

The 3XI travelled a few miles up the road to Milstead and on winning the toss elected to field. Daniel Gunner (0 for 34)  and the Chairman (2 for 14)  opened the bowling and it took two “well flighted” consecutive balls from the Chairman two remove the openers with Ella Hadler picking up one of them with an excellent high (and first senior) catch at square leg. Tony Hadfield (3 for 41) picked up further wickets while supported by good bowling from Toby Heather (1 for 38) with Ella picking up a second good catch.  Daniel Gunner got a hat-trick of catches and Guy Wakefield (1 for 2) picked up the 8th wicket.  Ella joined the action picking up her first senior wicket to finish off the 10 man Milstead innings as they reached 151 in the 30th over.

Getting the extra 10 overs the game was always going to be decided on wickets.  Openers Eric Philips (32) and the Chairman (26) laid down the foundation in the first 20 overs with a 50 partnership.  Christian Roberts added to the score with an excellent 17 as did Anthony Burbury (18) and Ashley Hooker (9) was unfortunate going out to a good catch.  Tony Hadfield (11 no) batted sensibly and it took Daniel Gunner (5 no) to hit the winning 4 as the team crossed the line with 3 wickets and 4.4 overs to spare.

On returning to the Radfield Hill the Chairman looked forward to celebrating with one of his non-alcoholic beers only to find that a member of the first XI, who shall remain nameless, had knowlingly drunk it all leaving the Chairman with just an Appletizer to celebrate!!

It is well known at the Club that the Chairman’s parking space and his non-alcoholic beer is sacred so I guess I am lucky you haven’t got a car Mr CAMERON ARCHBOLD !!!!!!!!!   :)

The Sunday XI had no game this week
