Tom Carey hit an outstanding 205 (retired) at the weekend, his highest ever score. James Weller also chipped in with 100 (retired) as the Sunday XI won their game by 148 runs.
The 1s travelled to Kings Hill and elected to field. The home team got of to a steady start reaching 37 for no loss until Harry Mantle (2 for 38) made the important first breakthrough. Ricky Dale (2 for 19 off 9 overs) removed the other opener 14 runs later and Harry picked up his second shortly afterwards as King Hill found themselves 58 for 3. Spin took over as Ricky picked up his brace and Tom Carey joined the attack and having an immediate effect. His 4 for 16 of 9 overs removed the middle order and with both Amith Lokesh (1 for 35) and Matt Lewis (1 for 2) the home team found themselves all out in the 44th over for 144.
James Weller fell early on but Matt (50 no) and Tom (50) put on a splendid 95 run partnership leaving returning Owen Harrison (14 no) and Matt to cross the line in the 30th over and by 8 wickets.
The 2s were at home to GNC CC GRFC and elected to bat. The decision back fired as the team found themselves 17 for 4. However, a 101 run partnership from Adam Rayner (65 no) and James Sutton (40) put runs on board that could be defended as the team found themselves 147 for 6 at the close of the innings
After tea Alan Hampton picked up an early wicket with a caught and bowled diving one handed catch to his left that mat just win him Champagne Moment of the Year award and was supported well by Arche Covey (0 for 26 off 8 overs). GNC knuckled down and the other opener together with the overseas player pushed the total slowly but comfortably to 91 for 1. Alan returned for his second spell and had immediate effect picking up two wickets in his first over back. Adam Rayner (1 for 35) chipped in with a wicket at the other end and when Alan picked up his 4th wicket (4 for 27) GNC looked liked they were on the back foot as the momentum swung back to Bapchild. The game could have gone either way but unfortunately a 6th wicket partnership meant the visitors crossed the line with 5 wickets and 6 balls to spare.
The 3s travelled to The Mote against a strong 4th XI. Put into the field captain Linc Bryden (2 for 25) picked up an early wicket through a catch from Toby Cleaver. The Mote batted agressively reaching 74 off the first 10 overs but a brace of wickets from Aaryan Rajgor (2 for 36) and Linc’s 2nd wicket the home team found themselves 84 for 4. As The Mote still went agressive Simon Rose’s 7 for 3 help stemed the runs which included a catch by son Josh who also picked up a runout. Ella Hadler (2 for 28) bowled well as the home team were finally bowled out in the 36th over for 201. A mention for Emily Surridge who did well going behind the stumps for the first time.
Kev Mile and Chris Wood (14) couldn’t repeat Chelsfield and wickets fell early. Glen Kennett batted extremely well for his 41 but only Toby (10) and Linc (28 no) reached double figures after that as the team reached the end of the innings seven down and 78 runs short of the target.
The Sunday XI were home to Frittenden and chose to bat
An early wicket brought Tom and James together and runs began to flow. Tom reached his highest ever score making 205 and then retiring while James also scored a ton before retiring. Tyler Wassell (14) and debutant Dhanush Thyagaraj (10) chipped in as the team reached an impressive 348 for 3 off their allotted 40 overs
Isaac Gregory-Bourne (0 for 16) and dad Ben (0 for 32) bowled well upfront as did Ella Hadler (0 for 35). Tyler Wassell (1 for 40) and Harry Mantle (2 for 62) picked up wickets at the end as the game fizzled out with Frittenden 148 runs short of the target on 208 for 4
