The 3rd XI opened the League season by travelling to Holborough Anchorians – Stand-in Captain Steve Hogg wisely selected to field after winning the toss. Ben Cooper (1 for 17) opened the bowling with Owen Harrison. Ben picked up an early wicket with Steve Hogg producing a lightning (self preservation) reaction parry and catch. Owen then ripped through the top order supported by James Weller (4 for 15). Ethan Collier bowled a tight little spell (0 for 15) before Owen returned to claim his first senior five wicket haul (5 for 21) and the home team were all out in the 31st over for 84.
Tom Carey and Tony Hadfield opened the innings and batted well. They looked like they would see the team home until Tom holed out on 28 and a partnership of 66. James Elkin joined Tony in the middle and with 19 runs required and Tony requiring 17 for his elusive first 50 for the club could today be the day. Unfortunately once again “Jug Avoidance” Hadfield fell 5 runs short and we will all have to wait another day ![]()
A great opening day for the team
A mixed 1st/2nd team played a friendly at home against Mote Park 2XI. Bapchild batted first with in form Adam Larking scoring a fine (69) supported by Ricky Dale (57). With the score on 145 for 2 the platform looked set and Rob Kennett (19) and John Heatley (20) continued to score but as the team pushed on wickets fell regularly and the team were all out for 196.
After tea Michael Neame (1 for 17) and Tyler Wassell bowled well as did Matt Lewis, Matt Roche (1 for 40), Ricky Dale (1 for 35), Lee Cogger and Nick Page but the opposition batted patiently and kept up with the run rate, crossing the line with 4 overs to spare.
