The 1st, 2nd and Sunday XI all won at the weekend while Sophie Hogben debut for the 3rd XI becoming the 4th female to play at senior level for the Club.
The 1s entertained Folkestone 2nd XI and decided to bat first. Tom Carey (38) and James (28) put on 69 opening stand. Ex-colt Darcy Carter playing for Folkestone picked up three wickets with only Mike Willis (18) and Matt Lewis (12) reaching double figures as the team found themselves all out for 147 in the 40th over.
After tea Folkestone started strong also reaching 60 for the opening partnership until a good stumping from Mike Willis made the breakthrough. Pressure was kept on the Folkestone’s captain was caught by Ricky Dale from a lively rising ball bowled by Harry Mantle. Ricky picked up 1 for 31 off his nine overs and Harry Mantle picked up a brace for the same runs and overs. Tom Carey (2 for 22) and Kesha Rajadurai (3 for 20) bowled excellently and wickets kept falling as Folkestone edge closer to the target. With just 5 required off the last two overs with one wicket standing it looked like the visitors may edge the win but Tyler Wassell rounded off what was a great fielding performance from all the team and caught the ball running backwards one handed to win the match. The 1s remain unbeaten and deserved the win for all of their efforts.
The 2s travelled to Offham and was put into the field. Tom Gunner picked up an early run out and William Cosstick (2 for 48) and Ethan Collier (2 for 51) removed the top half of the batsman as he home team found themselves 40 for 5. The lower order dug in reaching 207 for 7 off their 40 overs (Tom Gunner 1 for 17, Glenn Kennett 1 for 35).
Cometh the hour cometh the captain and the colonel. Captain James Sutton and Simon Cosstick batted superbly and sensibly and after James was dismissed for 52, Nick Page (39no) carried on in the same fashion as he and Simon (98no) reached the target with 4 overs and 9 wickets to spare.
The 3s entertained Rainham 4th XI – Rainham elected to bat and Patrick Hogben (1 for 37) and Ollie Julier (1 for 24) were in the wickets early and Ella Hadler (3 for 32) and Chloe Williams (1 for 71) carried on the trend – unfortunately Rainham fielded an ‘out of sorts’ 1st XI play who opened for their team scoring 108 and supported by an equally strong number 8 (71no). However, debutant Sophie Hogben took the ball and unfazed pick up her first senior wicket an ended with very respectable figures of 1 for 40. Dad Vince became the third Hogben to bowl in the match but couldn’t repeat his children wicket taking ability going 0 for 24 although throwing himself around the field like a young person was very impressive. Rainham ended on 237 for 8 in their 40 overs.
Three wickets fell quickly after tea but Steve Botting shone through hitting a nice 40 before being bowled. Vince (12no) unfortunately was the only other player to reach double figures including a fine slog sweep 4 on one knee against their spinner as the team succumbed for 76 in the 29th over.
The Sunday XI travelled to Brooklands and decided to bat first. Some early wickets put the team under pressure but a fine 41 from Tom Carey and a superb 71 no out from Lincoln Bryden put the team back in the driving seat. Jacob Carter (16) and Caleb Deveson (11) also chipped in as the team reached 185 for 7 in their 40 overs. Ethan Collier (3 for 26) picked up early wickets with help from the other end from Tom Gunner (0 for 15). Anthony Burbury (2 for 15) and Tom Carey (2 for 12) both picked up a brace and Jacob Carter (1 for 20), Ella Hadler (1 for 21) and Caleb Deveson (1 for 21) all bowled well as the home team was bowled out for 160 in the 39th over giving the team their first win of the campaign.
The U14 Bears entertained Faversham CC and elected to bat. Good knocks from Joshua Ingram (33 rt) Dhylan Smith (29) and Sophie Hogben (18) meant the team reached 148 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Wickets fell regularly after the break as Bapchild used 8 bowlers with Dhylan Smith picking up 3 (3 for 11), Jay Sharma (2 for 8), Leo Bassett (1for 14) keeping the visitors under constant pressure. at the close Faversham had reached 89 for 7 giving the Bears an impressive 59 run win.
