Two’s Win To Remain Top

The 2nd XI remained top of the League with their win against 4th place Cowdrey on Saturday.  On winning the toss the team decided to bat and got off to a good start with Simon Cosstick (39) and Linc Bryden (29) scoring well.  Nick Page (36 ) and Captain James Sutton (41) added to the score and combined with 29 from William Cosstick the team reached 211 for 9 in their allotted 46 overs.

Allan Hampton (2 for 23) picked up two quick wickets after tea and was supported well by Jake Mitchell (0 for 20).  Glenn Kennett (3 for 40 and a run out) did his usual magic removing the middle order with Ethan Collier and Lee Cogger both picking up one.  William Cosstick’s brace in his only over finished the visitors as they found themselves all out for 158 in the 41st over.

The 1st XI were away Old Colfeians and were put into the field. James Longhurst (2 for 46) made an early break through and while wickets fell on a regular basis they couldn’t remove the home teams number 3 who was 73 not out as Old Cofeians reached 237 for 8 in their 50 overs.  Owen Harrison picked up 2 for 48 while Tyler Wassell, Harry Mantle, Ricky Dale and Matt Lewis all picked up one each

After tea the team never really got going apart from Callum Leary (38) as the team found themselves all out for 141 in the 35th over

The 3XI did not have a game this week

With no KVL game the Sunday XI arranged a friendly fixture against Newington at Rook Lane.  Electing to field the team utilised 10 bowlers in their 40 overs. Ella Hadler (2 for 23) picked up early wickets and the Harrison brothers both picked up one each as did Tom Carey and “grandad” Lee Taylor (oldest in the team by at least 20 years !!) as the home team reached 207 for 6 in their 40 overs

After the break Tom Carey (48) and Anthony Burbury (24) got the team off to a good start but it took two maiden fifties from Ella Hadler (50 no) and  Daniel Gunner (56 no) to see off the win with 6 wickets and 1 ball to spare.

Congratulations to Ella and Dan on their achievement
