Twos Win By 10 Wickets

The 2nd XI travelled to Old Hartsdonians and winning the toss elected to put the home team into bat. A great opening spell from Michael Neame and Luke Donovan put the pressure on the openers and while they were unfortunate not to pick up wickets the run rate remained low. A change of bowling increased the run rate dramatically with the Chairman (who was brought on to continue the pressure) being dispatched twice into the tennis courts for six. Settling down the Chairman introduced the DIPPER and the BIG DIPPER and a “sharp” stumping saw Old Hartsdonians lose their first wicket. With good support from Mark Forshaw at the other end, a mixture of good bowling combined with some excellent bad balls to pick up the wickets the Chairman removed the top six batsman. James Wellar, Luke Donovan and James Neame removed the tail and the home team found themselves all out for 143 in the 46th over.

James Sutton and Chris Hogg opened the batting against a good opening attack. Remaining patient and picking off the odd bad ball the score steadily rose. After drinks at 15 overs and with the score on 50 the pair went on attack. With a good mixture of attacking and sensible batting the pair saw Bapchild home in the 29th over with both batsmen returning an innings of 63 not out and the team picking up their second win of the season.

Elsewhere the 1st team were home to Chislehurst. Put into bat the home team were put into bat and come under immediate pressure being 3 for 2. Wickets fell regularly with the pick of the batting Alan Hampton 30, Ricky Dale 20 and Harry Mantle 20 who put a fine rear guard action with Tyler Wassell saw the home team being bowled out for 133. An early wicket from Josh Hunt brought hope that Bapchild could mount the same sort of pressure early on and while wickets fell, including two from Alex Ward, the visitors reached the target with 4 wickets to spare

THe 3rd XI unfortunately for only the second time in 4 years had to concede the game – a perfect storm players not back from university, revising for school exams, half term holidays, anniversaries, wedding, premature births ………… meant a record 42 players not being available leaving us 6 short to field a team.

Sunday saw the first team playing Harbledown in a KVL Division 1 match. The visitors elected to bat and got off to a solid start despite and excellent opening spell by Joshua Hunt picking up only 1 wicket (with a great catch by James Weller) when on another day would picked a bag full. Ricky Dale picked up a couple wickets shortly afterwards with two good catches from Harry Mantle. James Weller continue to field exceptionally well topping it off with a superb direct hit run out from 35 yrds out and seeing only one stump. The Chairman came on with 8 overs to go picking up 4 wickets with slightly better balls than Saturday. Good support from Tyler Wassell saw the visitors scoring only 9 runs off the last 4 overs and reaching 193 for 9 off their 40 overs

Bapchild started off well but three quick wickets saw the pressure mount. A good stand from Joe Mills (47) and Tyler (21) looked that the team may rally but in the end falling well short being bowled out for 115.
