Cold Start to the Season

The 2nd and 3rd XI teams started their league campaign on a very cold May Saturday

The 2nd XI travelled to Leeds and Broomfield for the 1st of a double header. The team batted first and got off to  a good start with and opening partnership of 59 (John Heatley 30, Rob Kennett 26) However, they were unable to build on the start as wickets fell regularly with only James Weller (35) and Linc Bryden (24) scoring double figures as the team reached 168 for 9 in the allotted overs.

Two half centuries from Leeds and Broomfield saw them cross the line in the 31st over with 5 wickets to spare – with wickets coming from Jake Mitchell (3 for 39) and Alan Hampton (2 for 31)

The 3rds travelled to Rumwood and batted first with Simon Cosstick becoming the first player on the 2019 Honours Board with 69 runs.  Scoring was slow and with a little flurry from Daniel Gunner (25 no) at the end of the innings the team reached 142 for 6 of their allotted 40 overs

Rumwood’s opening batsman was 100 not out as they reached the target in the 22nd over and 9 wickets to spare with Ella Hadler (1 for 26) picking up the only wicket

It would have been warmer if it had snowed !!!!
