Bapchild CC opened their 2025 League season with a 10 wicket victory against Selsted in the Kent Village League on Sunday.

Bapchild won the toss and elected to field.   After an early wicket from Ethan Collier (3 for 41) Selsted batted steadly until Ethan broke through twice more. Aaryan Rajgor (1 for 28) playing his first ever senior game removed the opener as James Sutton picked up the stumping.  Dan Covey (3 for 17) removed the middle order and Haris Khan (1 for 19) returned to pick up a wicket at the end as Selsted reached a respectable 208 for 8 off their allotted 40 overs.  Tom Carey (0 for 38) Glenn Kennett (0 for 25) and Amith Lokesh (0 for 24) all bowled well.

Tom Carey and James Weller batted superbly well seeing off a good opening attack and then pushing singles to bring the field in before attacking aggressively the boundary.   After just 26.3 overs the opening pair reached the target with Tom on 118 and James on 55.   A convincing 10 wicket win for the Club’s opening game of the League Season

The team had played a  friendly the previous week against Rainham and another friendly on Saturday against Bettshanger.

Bapchild elected to put Bettshanger into the field and got off to a good start from the openers (Tom Carey 36, James Weller 44).   James Sutton (27), Joe Mills (39) and Chris Knope (33) all scored freely as the team reached 207 for 5 off their 40 overs.

Ethan Collier (2 for 23) again picked up a couple of early wickets supported well by Haris Khan (0 for 29).  A change of bowling immediately got a wicket on Ben Wiebe-Williams first ball and Ben continued to take two more wickets in his 4 over spell (3 for 24) supported by Ben Gunner (1 for 12) and Amith Lokesh (0 for 16).   Betttshanger’s low order dug in but Adam Rayner (4 for 21) finished the game off as the opposition were bowled out for 156 runs two balls short of their 40 overs
