All four senior league teams won at the weekend and saw some outstanding batting and bowling.
The 1st XI travelled to Addington and elected to bowl. Opening bowlers Tyler Wassell and Tom Gunner (1 for 20) picked up early wickets as the home team found themselves 13 for 3. Kesha Rajadurai continued to the good work (9 overs 2 for 14) supported by Tom Carey (9 overs 0 for 22) as the score slowly moved to 59 for 5. Tyler Wassel (9 overs 4 for 19) returned picking up three wickets more wickets and with Joe Mills bowling a very tidy 6 overs 2 for 3 at the other end it took Ricky Dale just 4 balls (1 for 0) to dismiss the final batsman. Addington were all out in the 37th over losing their last 5 wickets for 21 runs.
Opener Tom Carey lost his wicket early on but James Weller (22no), Matt Lewis (33) and Mike Willis (15no) saw 1s home to win the first game of the season by 8 wickets and 28.3 overs to spare.
The 2s were home to Dartford 4XI in their opening game of the season and elected to bat. Openers Nathan Glazier (38) and Paul Surridge (45) got the team of to a superb start before the partnership was broken on 99. Nick Page (22) and Amith Lokesh (25) and Extras (55) continued to good work as the team batted sensibly to reach 201 for 6 after their allotted 40 overs.
After the break opening bowler Steve Roberts destroyed the top order taking 5 wicket for no runs supported well by captain Adam Rayner (1 for 16) as Dartford slumped to 14 for 6. Lee Cogger (9 overs 0 for 28) and Amith Lokesh (7 overs 1 for 8) kept the visitors under pressure. It took The Chairman (3 overs 1 for 2) only an over of complete filth to make the next break through as he fooled the batsman to hit a ball 4 inches outside the return crease for a catch. The captain realising that at 50 for 8 with The Chairman’s bowing the game was still on for the opposition brought Steve back at the other end who promptly dispatched the remaining two batsman and returned an extremely impressive 5.2 overs 7 for 7 as Dartford was bowled out for 64 and 137 runs short of the target.
The 3s travelled to Orpington Ocelots and was put into the field (once they had found the right field !!). Debutant Phil Danbury and Ella Hadler opened the bowling with Phil (8 overs 2 for 29) picking up his first wicket for the club early on a second through a diving catch in the slips by captain Linc Bryden. Run outs from Rob Kennett and Richard Godfrey combined with a catch from Ella off of Tony Hadfield (8 overs 1 for 33) saw the home team collapse to 49 for 5. The Ocelots rallied and it as the return of Ella (7 overs 1 for 26) that broke the stubbon partnership with a caught and bowled with the score on 125. Aaryan Rajgor playing his first senior League match bowled extremely well returning figures of 8 overs 0 for 32 but cometh the hour cometh the captain as Lincoln Bryden stepped up and removed the remaining four batsman for one run including a superb hatrick as the home team found themselves all out in the 38th over for 147.
Two early wickets could have dangerous for the team as they chased the total after the break but a 47 run partnership from brother Yuvraj Rajgor (48) and Aaryan (30 no) put the team in a strong position. Unfortunately Yuvraj run himself out and missed out on what would have been a fine half century but it took another debutant Kev Miles (39) batting alongside Aaryan to almost clinch the game. Unfortunately Kev also succumbed to a run out and it left Tony to score the final fun for a six wicket victory in the 37th over
The Sunday XI travelled down the road to Sheldwich for their second KVL league game. Electing to bat both openers went about the task with Tom Carey scoring 68 and James Weller a superb 148 no. James was also supported well by Dan Covey (22) and Glenn Kennett (30 no) as he just missed out on his 150 as the team completed their allotted 40 overs scoring 286 for 2.
Ethan Collier (1 for 25) and Tom Gunner (1 for 21) dismissed both openers for ducks. Sheldwich rallied but Dan Covey’s 3 for 9 removed the middle order stubboness. Aaryan Rajgor picked up his first senior wicket taking 3 for 10 off his seven overs supported well by Amith Lokesh (6 overs 0 for 17). Ella Hadler took 1 for 3 off her three overs and Glenn Kennett (1 for 2) ended the game with the home team bowled out for 124 in the 35th over
The U12s lost by just 10 runs in a good game against Upchurch on Thursday.
