The weekend proved fruitful for Bapchild picking up three wins out of the four matches.
The first team was home to Rainham and having lost the toss were put into the field. Rainham looked in charge as they reached 174 for 4 with 15 overs to go. Aggressive batting combined with accurate bowling from Matthew Roche (5 for 44) and Ricky Dale (4 for 41) saw the visitors lose 6 wickets for just 15 runs and only reaching 189 off of 42.3 overs.
Although Bapchild wickets fell regularly a superb innings from Adam Larking who reached 101 before being dismissed and supported by Ricky Dale (29) meant Bapchild collected a full 20pts winning the game by 3 wickets.
The second XI travelled to bottom of the league St. Margarets. Putting the home team into bat the only stubborn resistance came from the opposition’s opening bat but once Glenn Kennett (4 for 13) joined the attack and removed him Glenn and Tyler Wassell (3 for 22) removed the middle order and tail dismissing the home team for 126.
Glenn remained in the wickets after tea taking to the field as umpire and removing Bapchild’s top order with a number of LBW decisions !!!! (sorry Glenn couldn’t resist). Once again captain Nick Page (46) stood up to be counted and put the team in reaching distance with support from Simon Harrison (19). Wickets began to fall and a steady 15 from Rob Kennett steadied the team for a while but required Michael Neame to hit a quick fire 14 to finish the game with two wickets to spare.
The third team were the only team to lose at the weekend but put up a valiant effort against promotion chasers Hunton. Putting the Visitors into bat Bapchild picked up an early wicket with a excellent spell of bowling from Owen Harrison. Wickets dried up as the Hunton pushed on to what looked like to be a 240+ score but late addition on Saturday morning to the team from two of our colt’s dads saw one of them join the attack taking a magnificent 6 for 30 and the visitors found themselves dismissed in the last over for 196.
Excellent start by Bapchild after tea saw Tom Carey (39) and our other debutant dad saw the team scoring 5 an over until Andrew Pidduck succumbed. Other wickets fell regularly with only Neil Bloor (25) in the middle order scoring significantly meant that Bapchild found themselves 9 down well short of the target. However, cometh the hour, cometh the man and a excellent and mature innings from Cameron Stevens (14no) and supported by the Chairman (26no) saw the home team reach a respectable 159 for 9 at the end of their allotted overs. It was the thirds highest score of the year, the first time they had bowled the opposition out this year and the game lasted past 8:00pm – three good highs to end Saturday cricket.
The Sunday first XI entertained Exiles at Bridge. Winning the toss Captain Ricky Dale elected to bat and an excellent opening partnership from Joshua Hunt (42) and Steve Roberts (74) meant that the team had a solid platform at the half way mark. Dylan Lee joined Steve in the middle after Josh holed out. Racing to his 50 Dylan lead a devastating attack on the Exiles bowling. Supported by Ricky Dale the pace quickened with Dylan reaching the second 101 of the weekend (not out) in the last over of the innings with Bapchild scoring a magnificent 270 for 4 off their allotted 40 overs
Bapchild started brightly with an excellent opening spell from Harry Mantle (3 for 34). A superb over the shoulder catch from Joe Cooper and a fine spell from Joe Mills (2 for 22) saw Exiles struggle. A small rear guard action came to an end with Ricky Dale picking up 2 for 0 off 2 overs and Tyler Wassell finishing off as the opposition were bowled out for 147.
