THE LEAGUE SEASON FIZZLES OUT

bcc-bg2

The League season officially finished on Saturday with unfortunately all three teams ending up on the losing side

The 1st XI were at home to High Halstow and the team elected to field first.  The visitors started off well but once the top three were removed wickets started to fall regularly with only one of the last eight reaching double figures as they reached 195 for 8 off their allotted 50 overs.   Pick of the bowling was Kesha Rajadurai (3 for 33) and Joe Mills (3 for 40).

Tom Carey put on 34 after tea while other wickets fell around him.  Joe (24) and Kesha (10 no) tried to make a stand but the team found themselves all out for 125 in the 28th Over

The 2nd XI travelled to a strong Kings Hill team who put on 316 for in their 45 overs (Lee Cogger 3 for 51, Adam Rayner 4 catches).  Captain James Sutton opened the batting getting 30 but again other wickets fell round him.  Dan Covey (24), Jacob Carter (14) Patrick Hogben (14) Ben Gunner (12) and Adam Rayner( (10) all chipped in but no one could convert into a total as the team were bowled out for 130 in the 34th Over

The 3rd XI travelled to The Mote with just 10 men and against a much stronger team then they had played earlier in the season.  Put into bat Will Surridge opened with Dad Paul scoring 14 before being caught behind.  Glenn Kennett put together a long innings scoring 39 and was ably supported by Caleb Deveson (18), Lincoln Bryden (21) and The Chairman (25 no) as the team reached 152 all out in the 38th over.

Mote’s opener chanced his arm and on another day his hard struck shots could have stuck as he was put down 5 times before going on to score a ton before Glenn (1 for 39) finally had him caught.  The Mote lost one other wicket before reaching the total with 15 overs to spare.

The Sunday XI travelled to Street End and was put into the field.  The top order of the home team batted well and wickets were hard fought.  Eventually the team picked up 7 wickets as Street End scored 280 in their allotted 40 overs.  Bapchild used 8 bowlers with Archie Covey 2 for 40 and Will Foster 2 for 35 picking up a brace each.

James Weller (74) and Tom Carey (39) got the team off to an excellent start  but wickets fell regularly thereafter with no one else making double figures as the them found themselves all out for 170 in the 33rd over

It has been a tough season for everyone particularly as we transition out of Covid and settle players into their new roles.   The Colts have been fantastic this year and many have stood up and been counted over the last few months.     Well done everyone for the way you have all played you cricket the Club is proud of you all

A full season summary will be published shortly
