Bapchild’s Sunday 1st XI chalked their first win of the season against Littlebourne at the weekend
On winning the toss Captain Ricky Dale elected to bat and after an early wicket joined Tom Carey in the middle with the score on 12. Both applied themselves well on a warm Sunday afternoon putting on a magnificent 160 run partnership with Ricky getting an excellent captain’s inning of 92 supported by Tom (57) scoring his second KVL fifty of the season. Nick Page and Tyler Wassell chipped in with 26 no and 16 no respectively and at the end of the 40 overs the team reached 233 for 5.
Bapchild picked up and early wicket through Harry Mantle (1 for 26) but Littlebourne pushed on scoring quickly but a break through by Tyler Wassell (1 for 41) with the score on 98. Ricky Dale joined the attack picking up the opener Sully Gould caught & bowled on 60. He then continued to pick up wickets including the danger wicket of Buzz Gould ending up with a superb 5 for 39 and Littlebourne found themselves all out for 179 in the 28th over
The Saturday 1st XI didn’t fair so well the day before going up against 2nd in the League Leeds & Broomfield. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. At 83 for 3 the game was evenly balanced but L & B batted freely and pushed on and at the end of their allotted overs had reached 304 for 6. Pick of the bowling Matt Roche (2 for 53) Ricky Dale (2 for 83)
After tea unfortunately wickets fell regularly with only Alan Hampton (39) and Joe Mills (32) putting up any resistance as Bapchild found themselves all out for 133 in the 38th over.
The twos travelled the other way to play Leeds & Broomfield’s 2nd XI who were top of the table. Put into bat, Bapchild lost wickets regularly but Matt Lewis scoring 26 at number 4 and a tail end of Darrell Carter 21, James Weller 22 and Michael Neame 26 the home team reached 152 before being all out in the 45 over.
The visitors never looked over troubled as they reached their target in the 40th over for the loss of 5 wickets. Pick of the bowling was Darrell Carter 3 for 29 and Glen Kennett 2 for 19.
The threes were at home to Yalding who won the toss and elected to field. A good start from opener Simon Cosstick (26) and Steve Pumfrett (19) was carried on by Simon Harrison who hit a superb 66 supported by Brian Carey 35. Chris Hogg (27) finished the innings with a devastating 24 off the last over as Bapchild reached their highest score of the season of 225 for 6 of their 40 overs.
Ashley Bax (3 for 40) got in amounts the Yalding batsman early on and when Harry Mantle was asked join the attack in order to get some overs under his belt he had a different idea taking 4 wickets for 1 run in just 3.4 overs. Yalding finding themselves all out for 91 in the 27th over
