Ollie pick up his first 5 wicket haul

bcc-bg1

Congratulations to Ollie Julier who picked up 5 for 32 for the 3rd XI in their game against Dartford at the weekend.

The 1st XI were home to Rainham and decided to field first.   The visitors team started well with the top three all scoring well as they reached 114 for three.   However, their dismissals by Tom Carey (3 for 31) and Kesha Rajadurai (3 for 31) saw wickets tumble regularly as Rainham struggled to 183 for 9 at the end of their innings with Harry Mantle (1 for 40) and Joe Mills (1 for 27) and a run out picking up the other wickets.

After the break early wickets put pressure on the team from the outset as the team were 25 for 3.  James Weller batted well for 43 before he was bowled.  Unfortuntely only Mike Willis (26) and Joe Mills (23) were the only other batsman to reach double figures as Bapchild were bowled out for 124 in the 40th over.

The 2nd XI travelled to Hawkinge and were put into bat.   Yuvraj Rajgor (28), James Sutton (35) and Nick Page (35) got the team off to a good start but none could not convert to a big score.  Tony Carollo (12), Tom Gunner (15), Adam Rayner (10) and Ben Wiebe-Willams (12 no) all chipped in as the team reached 164 for 8 in their allotted 40 overs.

A couple of early wickets from Ben (2 for 46) followed two more shortly afterwards looked like the team may pick up another straight win but the opening bat but the opener and and their number 6 batsman carried their bats with both scoring half centuries as the home team won by six wickets in the 31st over. Adam Rayner (1 for 44) and Daniel Covey (1 for 34) picking up the other two wickets.

The 3rd XI  welcomed newcomers Dartford 5th XI, who were flying high at second in the league table.

Captain Lincoln Bryden was still injured so Ella Hadler led out the team with support from Chris Wood.  Ella won the toss and decided to field an opened the bowling with Ollie Julier and Jay Sharma (5 overs 0 for 20) .  Ollie made the early breakthrough picking up their skipper trapped LBW in the first over.

With Jay bowling tidily at one end while Ollie continued to produce wicket taking deliveries, removing their top order as the visitors found themselves 25 for 3.

The spin twins of Harvey Bryden and Sophie Hogben were introduced, and both immediately made an impact. Harvey (3 for 22), found turn and bounce producing wickets with a straight one, a bouncer, and finally an off break delivery! Sophie (1 for 25) bowled tidily and got her wicket due to a smart catch by Captain Ella.   Ollie was brought back on to getting two more wickets and his first senior 5 wicket haul (8.2 overs 5 for 32) as Dartford were all out for 111 in 30.2 overs.

In reply, Baphild knew that the run chase heavily depended on the top order.  Chris Wood started brightly while Brian was steadier in his approach but wickets fell regularly and the team realised the run chase was about was now all about batting points.  Chris was smacking everything in sight, knowing that he was on borrowed time and during a particularly fruitful over, skipper Ella ran out to the centre to inform him that his heavily pregnant partner Kirstin had phoned to say she had been taken to hospital and that he should leave immediately.    He duly did, retiring on 32, not knowing that his beautiful daughter Clara Elizabeth would not arrive until Monday morning.

Other notable moments from the batting was the staunch resilience of George (10 off 19 balls) and Jay (10 off 46 balls) with a broken bat.

But despite this entertainment, it was not enough and Bapchild were all out for 78. However picking up valuable points and the team are currently 5th in the league.

Ollie was voted player of the day.

The Sunday Xi friendly game against Harbledown was cancelled.

The U12 Broncos beat eventually league winners by a net score of 37 on Thursday.  Congratulations to the Broncos who secured runner up position with the win and missing out being league champions by only just 2 points.
