Owen blasts through opposition

bcc-bg1

On the last weekend of League cricket Owen Harrison picked up a 5 wicket haul on Sunday against Stone-in-Oxley

The Sunday XI travelled to deepest Kent in their last Division 1 Kent Village League game of the season.   If the won they would finish in 3rd place. The home team elected to bat and was immediately under pressure as a spell binding performance by Owen (5 for 35) saw him rip through the top order.   Owen would have picked up a couple of more wickets had it not been for some unfortunate drop catches.   Josh Hunt supported Owen picking up 2 for 24 in his 9 overs.  The home team were removed for 133 in the 33rd over having been 44 for 6.

James Sutton (23), James Weller (20) and Ricky Dale (26) got the team off to a good start supported in the middle by Will Cosstick (15) and Anthony Burbury (10) but as wickets fell Josh Hunt batting at number 9 decided to finish the game with a quick fire 19.

The team won by 2 wickets in the 34th over and secured a well deserved 3rd place over all. Special mention to Ricky Dale as Captain, leading batsman and leading bowler who also jointly took the most wickets in the league.

The first team entertained Finsbury who looking for promotion elected to bat.  Wickets fell regularly but the visitors pushed on scoring 201 for 8 declared in the 45th over. Ricky Dale (4 for 47) and Owen Harrison (2 for 54) being the pick of the bowling

The team started well with Adam Larking (16), James Weller (27) and Ricky Dale knocked up a fine 73  set the team up well for the run chase. However, with six of the last seven batsman not getting into double figures the team was bowled out for 177 in the 47th over

The 1st team had a good year finishing comfortably in 6th place and had the weather affected games when the team were in winning positions no doubt we they would have finished much higher.

The 2nd XI travelled to Bettshanger and was put into the field.  Two early run outs put the home team under pressure and although a third wicket stand looked to threaten it once again took another excellent spell from Glenn Kennett (4 for 34) and a further run out saw Bettshanger on 167 of 7 at the close of their innings.

A fine opening partnership by Simon Cosstick (51) and Nathan Glazier (46) was built on by Nick Page (15) and Joe Mills (28) as the team reached the target with the loss of 3 wickets in the 38th over

The 2nd XI finished 4th in their first year back in the Kent League – a great effort by all the team but special mention to Glenn Kennett who won Division 5 2nd XI bowling award with 42 wickets

The 3rd XI travelled to Holborough Anchorians and were put into bat.  Wickets fell quickly and with only Paul Gilbert (28 no) reaching double figures the team was all out 51 in the 23rd over

The team managed to pick up 1 wicket but the home team comfortably crossed the line in the 11th over.

The 3XI came an excellent 7th in their league winning a record 7 games

A great season and thank you to all the players for the way they have once again played their cricket and made the Club proud.  Also many thanks to the supporters and volunteers for being an important part of the club
