Bapchild came out on top in two local derbies at the weekend
The 1st team entertained Faversham at home and on winning the toss decided to bat first. Two wickets in the first over put the team under pressure but a 50 partnership between Adam Larking (22) and Matt Lewis who went on to score a excellent 79 steadied the ship. A good 20 from Joe Mills before being bowled led to a couple of quick wickets and the team at 111 for 6. However the lower order played their part and with Michael Willis (13), the Chairman (17), Simon Harrison (10), Anthony Burbury (20 no) and Adam Rayner (14) meant the team reached 210 for 9 at close of the innings
Faversham got off to a steady start reaching 50 for none but some great bowling from Ricky Dale (3 for 30) and Matt Lewis (2 for 21) removed the top half of the order including a great catch by Adam Larking. Faversham settled for a draw but a change of bowling with Adam Rayner (1 for 20) returning to the attack and two great catches from Anthony Burbury and Adam Larking in two consecutive balls from Joe Mills wrapped the game with the visitors all out for 134 in the 44th over
The Sunday 1st team were home to Sheldwich in a KVL division match. The visitors decided to bat and although the team picked up one quick wicket the opposition raced to 140 without further loss before Michael Willis (2 for 35) removed James Creed. Ricky Dale (2 for 44), Lee Taylor (3 for 10) and “keeper” Josh Hunt (1 for 35) pegged Faversham back bowling them in the final over for 215.
The team got off to a great start as James Weller (28) knocked 5 fours in consecutive balls in the second over. Ricky Dale hit another superb innings scoring 90 before nicking off. Steve Roberts (37) and Lee Taylor (39 no) played excellent supporting roles and it left James Sutton to knock the final run at the start of the 35th over as the team crossed the line with 7 wickets to spare.
The 2nd XI had to travel slightly further afield in their away match with Ashford. Electing to bat got off to a good start with openers Simon Cosstick (29) and James Weller (31). Nathan Glazier (31) and Nick Page (40) built on the good work and the team reached 193 for 7 in their allotted overs
Three quick wickets put the pressure on early and the home team decided to play for a draw. 7 bowlers were used to try and break through and all though some success couldn’t quite finish off the job as Ashford reached 129 for 7 in their 46 overs. Pick of the bowling Linc Bryden (3 for 18) and Glenn Kennett (2 for 23)
The 3rd XI unfortunately had to concede again as the holiday season and some injuries continued to take affect
