The weather was top notch at the weekend – unfortunately out results did not quite match up
The 1st team had the best result getting a good winning draw against visitors Walmer. Batting first Bapchild got off to a good start with an opening partnership of 57 (Adam Larking 36, Joshua Hunt 16) and when both of them got out Dylan Lee (34) and Ricky Dale (18) continued building a good platform. At 107 for 2 Bapchild were on top but a succession of wickets saw the home team battling out to reach 181 for 8 off the allotted overs with fine not out knock of 26 from Joe Cooper.
Walmer also started well reaching 49 before losing their first wicket but with some excellent bowling from Adam Rayner 7 overs for 18 runs, Rickey Dale 3 for 57 off 15 overs and Matthew Roche 1 for 25 off 15 overs Walmer were always struggling especially after a superb runout by Joe “the Exocet” Mills. When our specialist death bowler Tyler Wassell entered the attack it looked likely the Bapchild would walk away with a full 20 points as he took 3 for 2 off three overs but Walmer managed to hold out for the final 4 overs ending up 20 runs short.
The twos didn’t fair as well on the travels to Holcombe and Blue Bell Hill. Putting the opposition into bat our bowling was a little poor with the home team racing to 72 in the first 12 overs. A change of bowling saw Harry Mantle (4 for 29) bowling good lines and being rewarded picking up three valuable wickets. Supported by James Weller (3 for 41) and the Chairman the run rate reduced dramatically. Unfortunately a flurry of runs at the end saw the home team reach 199 for 9 off their allotted overs.
After tea Bapchild struggled with a slowing wicket and accurate bowling. James Sutton (48) batted well supported by Simon Cosstick (19) and Nick Page (22) but wickets fell regularly and a part from small rear guard by Mark Forshaw (20) Bachild found themselves all out and 50 runs short
The twos were playing their third consecutive game at home (SCC) this time against Holborough Anchorians. Putting the Visitors into bat it was great to see the return from University of Robert Hawkes who took 3 for 60. Supported by Neil Bloor (2 for 45), Owen Harrison (1 for 45), Sam Hewitt (1 for 37) and Shiv Patel 6 overs for 26 managed to keep the visitors down to 217 off their allotted overs.
Wickets fell regularly after tea but a good middle order recovery Neil Bloor (37), Brian Carey (26) and Sam Hewitt (17) supported by the first half century for the team by EXTRAS! allowed Bapchild to reach 175 before being bowled out.
The Sunday second team played at home against a re-arrange fixture with Murston. Batting well the home team reached 215 (Robert Kennett 50) but were beaten by 4 wickets in the the end
