bcc-bg2

James Weller hit his second Village League ton in succession and the 3rd XI won their first game of the season against Sheppey 2nd XI this weekend

The 3rd Xi were at home to Sheppey and was put into bat by the visitors. After a steady opening partnership from Brian Carey and Caleb Deveson, Linc Bryden (38) and Ella Hadler (30) batted sensibly (although Linc almost removed Ella’s head with a powerful drive !!).  Unfortunately the middle order struggled to keep momentum but good knocks from Chloe Williams and Sophie Hogben (as well as 34 extras) helped the team reached 147 for 7 at the close of the innings.

Ella (2 for 14) and Will Surridge (2 for 23) struck in their opening overs to place Sheppey under pressure from the start.  The pressure was maintained by Chloe (2 for 20) and when Sophie (2 for 12) removed the danger man cheaply it looked like Sheppey would fold.  However, one Sheppey’s lower order batsman start to hit the ball around the ground but an outstanding catch by Nilesh Rajgor giving George Ward (2 for 4) his first senior wicket meant the visitors ended up all out and 70 runs short of the target.  A great effort by all the team.

The 1s were also at home against Rainham who decided to bat first.  Starting strongly Rainham had scored 70 before the first wicket fell to Tom Carey (2 for 30). Kesha Rajadurai (2 for 47) kept the pressure on but a 5th wicket partnership of 78 helped the visitors pass the 200 mark.  Three wickets pegged them back with Tyler Wassell (2 for 46) and Will Cosstick (1 for 18) picking up wickets as Rainham finished 0n 217 for 7.  (Ricky Dale 9 overs for 23)

The team lost wickets regularly after tea reaching 131 for 7 at one stage (Tom Carey 38) but Will (88 not out) and Kesha (32 not out) 65 partnership helped secure almost full batting points as the team fell 21 runs short of the total

The 2s travelled to Upchurch and elect to field.   Upchurch started strongly with the top four reaching double figures but the team stuck to it’s task and once they had been removed the remaining batsman were dismissed with no one scoring more than 7.  The bowlers in the wickets were Ethan Collier (4 for 26), Tom Gunner (3 for 33), Adam Rayner (2 for 25) and supported by Patrick Hogben (9 overs for 47), Callum Leary (0 for 16) and Anthony Burbury (0 for 13) as Upchurch finished on 161 for 9

Simon Cosstick and Chris Wood go the team started but an outstanding partnership from Chris Knope (55 not out) and Callum Leary (61 not out) took the game to the home team and crossed the line with 8 wickets and 15 overs to spare.

The Sunday XI were away to Kings Hill and was put into the field by the opposition.  Kings Hill got off to a strong start but the team continued to pick up wickets as the home team scored 215 for 7 off their 40 overs. Tom Gunner (3 for 43), Jacob Carter (2 for 39), Ethan Collier (1 for 39) and Daniel Covey (1 for 55) taking the wickets. Following a couple of early wickets James Weller and Daniel Covey (29) put on a good stand but in the end even James Weller’s 103 no the team couldn’t reach the total in the allotted overs and were 171 for 5 at the close of play

The U14 Bears beat Minster on Sunday by 53 runs as they scored 167 for 4 in their 20 overs and Minster were 114 for 4 in reply.

The U16s beat also beat Minster the previous Monday by 60 runs scoring 153 for 5 while the opposition were all out for 93 – SEPARATE POST ON THE WEBSITE
