2s just miss out on promotion

The 2XI just missed out on promotion this year to Leeds &  Broomfield in the deciding match.

It was always going to be a tough ask to go to Leeds and Broomfield and get a win and keep them to less than 6 bonus points

Pit into bat the team got off to a start with Linc Bryden (42) and Robert Kennett (19).  Nick Page (17) and James Weller (34) also put on a good middle order stand with Steve Pumfrett (15) and Adam Rayner (11) also chipping in but the bowling was tight and the team ended on 178 for 8 at the close of the innings

After tea Adam Rayner (2 for 36) and Ethan Collier bowled well but the openers put on a good opening stand.  Alan Hampton looked to turn the match in the teams favour taking 5 for 27 off his ten overs including a spectacular one handed catch from James Weller and 3 stumping by James Sutton.  Lee Cogger and Luke Whitehouse also picked up a wicket each and Adam returned to pick up his brace including the opener as the home team edged towards the total and crossing the line with just one wicket to spare.

A great effort from the team on the last day of the season and should be proud of their final league position of 3rd

The 1XI were at home to Old Williamsonians and on winning the toss decide to bat.   The top order scored freely with openers Adam Larking (79) and Tom Carey (56) doing early damage (with Tom scoring a further run after leaving the field urgently !!!).  Ricky Dale (28), Lee Taylor (52) and Callum Leary (32) all playing their part with the team reaching 294 for 6 off the allotted 50 overs

Owen Harrison (1 for 36) and Harry Mantle (1 for 45) picked up the openers but  another great spell from captain Ricky Dale (4 for 36) did all the damage.  William Cosstick bowled well with 2 for 20 and with Tyler Wassell (1 for 4) picking up the last wicket against a 10 man team the 1s came out on top by 145 runs as the visitors were all out for 149 in the 33rd over

The 3s travelled to Lenham and up against a strong home side the 3s elected to field.  Lenham’s top order scored well but the young bowling attack kept at their task with excellent spells particularly from Christian Roberts & Oscar Hird.   The home team scored 264 for 3 off their 40 overs

After tea wickets fell regularly with just Christian Roberts (31) and Brian Carey (13) scoring double figures as the team were bowled out for 74

The Sunday XI completed the league season away to Challock and on an interesting pitch found themselves bowled out for 145 in the 35th over.  Steve Roberts (40) and William Cosstick (22) leading the scoring.

The home team started well and it took a change of bowling to remove the openers with Ella Hadler (1 for 16) and Thomas Carey (1 for 16) getting the break through.  Ricky Dale (3 for 20 NOT 30 !!) and William Cosstick (1 for 27) removed the middle order along with a run out by Anthony Burbury.  Steve Roberts (3 for 24)  joined the action removing the last three wickets  and leaving the home team still 20 runs short

This weekend signalled the end of the league season and once again all four teams have done the club proud
