1st and 2nd have convincing wins

bcc-bg1

Two good wins at the weekend for the 1st and 2nd XIs at the weekend

The 1st XI entertained Chislehurst & West Kent who won the toss and elected to bat.  Owen Harrison (3 for 35)  again picked up early wickets building early pressure.  The pressure continued as Joshua Hunt (4 for 45) and Ricky Dale (2 for 20) bowled 30 overs for just 65 runs leaving the visitors on 165 for 9 off their allotted 50 overs.

In response after tea the team never looked in trouble with openers Adam Larking (41) and Simon Cosstick (33) getting them off to a good start.  Daniel Pumfrett (37) and Ricky Dale (25) supported by Callum Leary (16) saw the team home safely with 6 wickets to spare in the 37th over.

The 2XI travelled to Offham and were put into bat. Robert Kennett (15) and John Heatley (24) got the team off to a good start and a 90 run partnership from Captain Nick Page (59 no) and Lincoln Bryden (38) meant the team reached 180 for 6 in their allotted 46 overs.

An early wicket from Adam Rayner (2 for 29) put the pressure on but the home team’s top order knuckled down and at 98 for 2 looked in a commanding position.  Linc Bryden (3 for 9 off 7 overs) got the breakthrough and Offham collapsed to 134 all out in the 43 over with  Ashley Bax (2 for 12), Glenn Kennett (1 for 20) and James Weller (1 for 8) all chipping in.

The 3rd XI was away to Upchurch and were put into the field.  Harry Mantle (2 for 42) opened the bowling after a two year absence and once the first ball was out of the way it looked like he had never been away.  After an early wicket Unchurch built a platform until William Cosstick (2 for 27) and the Chairman (1 for 15) broke through.  However the home team scored steadily and reached 196 for 5 in their allotted 40 overs.  Special mention to colts Owen Harrison, Christian Roberts and Toby Heather (debuting for the seniors) all fielded to a high standard.

Two early wickets after tea meant the team would always struggle to reach the total and the colts were told to bat for experience.  Christian Robert scored a very solid 16 in 20 overseas as did Toby Heather who also batted for 10 overs.  William Cosstick was top score with 25 and the Chairman was robbed of his 50 again scoring 14 not out before running out of partners at the end of the 39th over with the score on 98.

The Sunday XI’s game was cancelled as the opposition Littlebourne conceded

AND FINALLY …….

We return to the 3rd XI game when “Drinks” was called while Bapchild were in the field.  As the team gathered to have their refreshment Wendy Roberts, mother of Christian, called him over and gave him a packet of crisps and offered him some sponge cake.  Wendy the clue is in the title “Drinks break” otherwise it would be called a “Picnic break” !!!! Failing that, next time please bring enough for 11 players, two batsman and two umpires !! :)

In the same game the Chairman forgot to bring his cricket pants for the second time this season.  Too frightened to call Mrs Chairman to bring them to the ground as she had gone to see “her Joshy” play for the 1s, the Chairman batted in his very trendy Calvin Kleins and looked like an American Rapper as he grabbed his box, to stop it slipping down to his knee cap, every time he had to run !!!

AND FINALLY FINALLY  ………

Congratulations to Rodney Bottle who wins hands down this weekend.    Around 9:15pm and having had ” a couple” of drinks to be social, waited outside in the dark for his lift home from his friend.  After 10 minutes a car pulled into the ground, Rodney bid the Chairman goodnight, opened the passenger door and climbed in, to sit next to a very surprised Mrs Leary who had come to pick up her son Callum, his sister and Adam Watson.   Priceless !!!!
