Tight games bring no results

3rd XI v Minster August 2024

It was a tough weekend at the office as all three teams lost in tight games.

The 1st XI entertained Tonbridge CC and elected to field first which looked to be the right decision as the visitors found themselves 44 for 3 with Tyler Wassell (5 for 36) picking up three early wickets.   Unfortunately a 4th wicket stand of 157 including a ton from their overseas player, who was dropped early on, moved the game the other way.  The team fought back but loose catching and fielding meant Tonbridge ended up on 266 for 7 in their allotted 45 overs.   Tyler Wassel pick on the bowling picking up 5 for 36 and Harry Mantle (2 for 56) picking up a brace.

in reply the team got them in a good position reaching 180 for 1 with 15 overs remaining (James Weller 66, Ricky Dale 43, Tom Carey 26) but with two wickets in two overs brought new batsman to the crease and it was difficult to restart the momentum.    In the end the team was 17 runs short having been bowled all out in the last over.

The second XI travelled to Canterbury CC and again elected to field.    Apart from their opener (85) who scored nearly half the runs only two other batsman made double figures as they reached 189 for 8 from their allotted 40 overs. Adam Rayner (2 for 21), William Cosstick (2 for 28), Daniel Covey (2 for 35) and Ben Wiebe-Williams (2 for 49) all picking up a brace along the way.

After an early wicket Simon Cosstick (26) and Nick Page (25) settled in but once removed wickets fell regularly as the team found themselves all out for 130 in the 36th over.

The 3rd XI were at home to Minster 4th XI, who play the game in the right spirit.

Once again Captain Lincoln Bryden lost the toss and unsurprisingly Minster opted to bat first.  The skipper opened the bowling with himself (2 for 19) and the ever reliable Jay Sharma (6 overs 0 for 29).

Bryden’s second wicket, brought Minster’s big summer signing and ex-Bapchild player, Jacob Carter, to the crease and starting promisingly but it was left to the ever reliable wicket taking “Don” Sophie (2 for 27), to dismiss him with her usual flight and guile.

With her and Glen Kennett (4-1-6-0), putting a strangle hold on proceedings, Minster were struggling to make a meaningful target. However they managed to finish on 150 for 5, with H Bryden (5-0-21-1), continuing his wicket per game strike rate.

In reply, Baphild started steadily against very accurate Minster bowling.  After the early loss of Caleb Deveson, it was left to Matt Lincoln (26) and Glen Kennett (38) to build a foundation and get near the winning total which proved difficult against a very disciplined attack.

When Matt was caught Bapchild’s task seemed bleak and this was made harder when Glen chipped one up soon after.

But cometh the hour, cometh the Wood! After not the strongest season, the Woodmeister (44 no) bludgeoning the Minster bowlers to all parts of Lower Halstow.

But despite this entertainment, it was not enough and Bapchild fell 20 runs short at the end of the 40 overs with 3 wickets remaining.

The U16s beat Minster on Monday.  Put into bat the team scored 156 for 3 before restricting Minster to 118 for 6 off their 20 overs.

The U14s had a good win on Sunday scoring 158 for 1 and winning by 53 runs.

The U12s beat Minster by a net score of 10
