Sunday XI open the league season with a win


A century from Tom Carey helped se the Sunday XI win their opening match against Worth at the weekend.  Captain Own Harrison won the toss and decided to bat.  Steve Roberts (34) and James Weller got the team off to a good start.   Tom join James after the dismissal of Stave and both batted well with Tom reaching 101 and James 84 before their dismissals.  Their innings help the team reach 242 for 6 at the end of the allotted 40 overs.

Worth started strongly and although the initial bowlers bowled well (Steve Roberts 5 overs for 14, Daniel Gunner  5 overs for 21, Ella Hadler 5 overs for 20) the openers built a good platform with a 134 opening partnership both openers making half centuries.  Own Harrison (4 for 25) and Tom Carey (2 for 16) removed the danger.  Wickets fell regularly thereafter (Ricky Dale 2 for 29) and the visitors were dismissed for 179 in the 39th over


The Club also played two friendlies on Saturday   One team hosted Rainham 2s and the team batted first and Matt Lewis scored and impressive 124.  Wickets fell regularly but debutant Kesha Rajadurai scored 64 not out as the team reached 244 for 7

Rainham never got going as all 7 bowlers that were used bowled well (Kesha 2 for 7,William Cosstick 2 for 14, Tyler Wassell 2 for 21, Ricky Dale 1 for 14, Tom Carey 1 for 15, Owen Harrison 1 for 16, Callum Leary 0 for 12) as Rainham reached 107

The other team travelled to Mersham Sports. Batting first the openers fell early but Alan Hampton (33) and Nick Page (21) looked to rebuild but unfortunately after their dismissal wickets fell regularly with only Ben Wiebe-16) Willams (18) and Tony Hadfield (16) as the team was bowled out for 115.

The hosts reached the target in the 25th over for the loss of 2 wickets (Lee Cogger 1 for 36)
