Bapchild Cricket Club

Seniors kick of season

A very cold April Saturday saw the senior squad kick off their season with two friendlies

The first team travelled to Bobbing Court and Lower Halstow

Electing to bat started quickly with Adam Larking (46) and Joshua Hunt putting on 30 in the first five overs.  Joshua holed out with a miss timed drive followed shortly afterwards by Steve Pumfrett leaving Adam in the middle with Tom Carey who together put a stand of 33. Unfortunately more quick wickets followed and the team looked a little rocky at 80 for 5.  Excellent knocks from James Sutton (28) and James Weller (25) supported by Michael Neame (who played a six and out game) and the Chairman (13) meant the scored 157 before being bowled out in the 37th over

Tyler Wassel (2 for 20) and the Chairman (1 for 27) opened the bowling with the Chairman getting the rough end of the deal bowling into the wind but pick up a “stunning” (only in his eyes) caught and bowed early on.  The home team found themselves scoring only 17 off the first 10 overs.  BC&LH rallied putting on 91 in a 2nd wicket stand and looked comfortable.  Michael Neame bowled two spells straight off, the first spell consisting of four overs of balls pitched closer to his toes than the facing batsman but his second spell without a break saw some excellent bowling and placed pressure on the batsman.

James Weller (1 for 41) finally broke through and supported by Tom Carey in a cameo bowling role, Tyler Wassell returned to prove he is still the club’s death bowler picking up two good wickets and going for only 2 runs in the last over to give Bapchild a slender victory by 7 runs

The second team played Sheppey at home but unfortunately while only 5 miles down the road were washed out after only 10 overs
