Bapchild Cricket Club

Ones just miss out against league leaders

The 1st XI just missed out on a win against top of the table Walmer at the weekend.  Putting the home team into the field Bapchild lost an early wicket but old hand Simon Cosstick (70) and captain Ricky Dale (53) put on a stand of 125.  At 138 for 2 but unfortunately both were out in short succession and Walmer raced through the rest of the batting line up bowling them out for 172 in the 49th over.

In similar manner Walmer got off to a reasonable start and had reached 131 for 2.  Adam Larking (4 for 58) returning to bowling after a far too long break and Rick Dale (3 for 48) also had the batting side tumbling with the home team just crossing the line with only one wicket standing in the 42nd over.  A great effort against a side who normally win comfortably at home

The 2nd XI entertained Hartley 4th XI in a rain affected match.  Openers John Heatley (63) and Robert Kennett (29) got the side off to a good start with Glenn Kennett (47 no) and James Sutton (20) also adding to the score of 185 for 7 in their allotted overs

A delay start to the second innings due to rain meant that the game was incomplete (unable to finish the match within the allotted time) with Hartley on 177 for 7. Pick of the bowling Lee Cogger (2 for 33). Glenn Kennett (2 for 78) and Linc Bryden who picked up 1 wicket for just 25 runs off his 14 overs

The 3rd XI unfortunately had to concede their game to Lordswood due to the inability to side a team.  Weddings, Stags and holidays were the only winners !!

The Sunday XI went to top of the league Wingham.  As expected Wingham put on a large total of 280 for 6 off their 40 overs with Bapchild using 8 bowlers in an attempt to break through. Pick of the bowling James Weller (2 for 49)

After tea Bapchild put on a good show chasing down the runs with James Weller (54) Tom Carey (66 no) and Daniel Pumfrett (43) all putting on good scores. Unfortunately the team came up short at the end of their 40 overs with a very presentable 212 for 5
