Matt Lincoln hit a superb chance-less 147 for the 3rds against Egerton at the weekend while Ben Wiebe-Williams took an impressive 6 for 18 in the Sunday KVL game against Bredgar.
The 1st XI were away to Upchurch and decided to bat first. Early wickets applied pressure on the team but captain Matt Lewis batting at four dug in scoring 49 in 105 balls unfortunately no one was able to build a big partnership with him as the team fought its way to 145 for 9 off their allotted 45 overs. James Weller (27), Kesha Rajadurai (14), Tyler Wassell (14) and Tom Carey (10) the other batsman reaching double figures.
Ricky Dale (2 for 28) picked up a brace but Upchurch crossed the line in the 28th over with eight wickets to spare.
The 2nd XI were at home to Minster CC and elected to field. An early wicket by Ben Wiebe-Williams (3 for 50) put pressure on the batting side but Minster dug deep and built a second wicket partnership until William Cosstick (2 for 30) removed both batsman. Ethan Collier (3 for 29) and Lee Cogger (1 for 39) removed the next three batsman cheaply but the lower order regained control reaching 213 before being bowled out in the final over.
Unfortunately only two Bapchild players reached double figures as the team was bowled out for 60 in reply.
The 3rd XI travelled to Egerton CC on a boiling hot day but looked forward to an entertaining and enjoyable game as Egerton always played the game in the right spirit. However, with the league being as it is, in terms of points it a win today was important
Egerton won the toss and opted to field, a decision and looked to be a good decision as they picked up a wicket in the first over. William Surridge, who alongside Matt Lincoln calmly put on a century stand, hitting any loose balls away. Will finally succumbed being dismissed for a well-earned 34. Tony then joined Matt, and after a shaky start, continue the run fest, until he was adjudged LBW for 43.
Matt Lincoln continued on his merry way compiling a chance-less 147, before he decided to run himself out. All that was left was for Paul Surridge to come in and hit a quick fire 29, to ensure Bapchild finished on 277-4.
In reply, Egerton started steadily. The Chairman and Jay bowled steadily to halt any early onslaught, however, it was Ella Hadler (2 for 36) and Harvey Bryden (3 for 29) that made the key breakthroughs. Highlights of this period was Tony Hadfield’s stunning diving catch at mid-off and later another full length diving catch backwards only to find it was a no ball. The skipper Lincoln Bryden’s parred catch off his son’s bowling (to make up for dropping one off his bowling last season) and a great caught and bowled by Harvey
Despite a late slog fest from their skipper who was finally caught on the boundary by Harvey (2 – 1 dad !!) the result was never in doubt as Jay and Tony picked up late wickets to leave Egerton 64 runs short.
The Sunday XI travelled just 6.9 miles up the road to play top of the league Bredgar CC. Having won the toss and electing to field the team put on the pressure with Tyler Wassell (1 for 11) picking up an early wicket supported well at the other end by Ethan Collier (9 overs, 0 for 26). Bredgar rallied briefly but Tom Carey (1 for 23) broke the partnership leaving Ben Wiebe-Williams to bowl and excellent 8 over spell taking 6 for 18 and removing not only the opener who was scoring well but the complete mid and lower order. Toby Heather (3 for 1) mopped up the last wicket as Bredgar found themselves all out for 113 in the 39th over.
Tom Carey (69) with James Weller (16) and James Sutton (21 no) supporting, saw the team cross the line in just 16.4 overs and with 8 wickets to spare.
