Bapchild wins local double header

Bapchild came out on top in a local double header against Rodmersham at the weekend.

The 1st XI entertained Rodmersham 1st XI in a Division 5 KCL match.  Put into bat by the visitors the team got off to a solid start with openers Alan Hampton (16) and Joshua Hunt (33) putting on 40 for the first wicket. Ricky Dale (26) Dan Pumfrett (43) and Dylan Lee (34) all built on the initial platform.  Rodmersham bowled well and while scoring was constant wickets fell just as the team started to kick on.   A superb knock from Michael Willis (41 no) supported by James Weller saw 50 come off the last 7 overs including 20 off the final over with the team reaching 220 for 7 at the close of the innings.

Some good bowling from Darrell Carter and Joshua Hunt put on early pressure on the Rodmersham openers but they held fast and began to build a score until Tyler Wassell broke the partnership with the score on 48.  However, Rodmersham continued to push on and with the score on 103 for 1 with half of the overs left the game looked to be swinging in the visitors favour.  A change of bowling made all the difference as Ricky Dale (5 for 35) and Alan Hampton (3 for 17) took the pace off the ball and with some good catching Rodmersham lost their last 9 remaining wickets for just 30 runs. The visitors being bowled out for 133 in the 33rd over.

The 3rd XI played at Rodmersham in the other half of the double header and again was put in to bat.  Simon Cosstick (37) and Ethan Collier (15) got the team off to a good start and two fine innings from Chris Hogg (68) and Chris Knope (41) saw the team reach 207 for 5 off their 40 overs.

Rodmersham lost a couple of early wickets through Richard Catton (1 for 31) and Graeme Corner (1 for 33) but it took Brian Carey (5 for 30) and James Elkin to remove the danger men and bowl the remainder of the team out for 189 in the 39th over. The decision to drop the Chairman to ensure a win had paid off !!

The 2nds travelled to Hartley to play their 4th XI.  Electing to bat the team lost early wickets and when opener Lee Cogger fell the team were 64 for 4.   Tom Carey (46) stepped up to the mark and supported by Matt Lewis looked to put the team back on track but when Matt fell with the score on 108 wickets fell quickly afterwards and the team found themselves all out for 135 in the 35th over.  Only Glenn Kennett (15 no) putting up any resistance until he run out of partners.

Hartley paced themselves as had the extra overs awarded but some excellent bowling from Glenn Kennett (4 for 18 off 15 overs) and good support from 7 other bowlers didn’t make it easy for the home team but Hartley crossed the line in the 48th over with 4 wickets to spare.
