Adam wins League Batting Award

Congratulations to Adam Larking who won the Kent Cricket League Division 5 (1st) batting award on Saturday.   Scoring 67 in the win against Frindsbury secured the award with 745 runs at an impressive average of 43.82.  Bapchild has now won the batting award in this division for the second consecutive year.

The 1st XI entertained 3rd place and outside contenders for promotion Frindsbury who were put into the field on a damp pitch in a  reduced 42 over match.   An opening partnership of 35 by Adam and Simon Cosstick in difficult conditions Adam was joined by Ricky Dale (40) who together moved the score on to 107 for 1.  Dan Pumfrett (15) and Lee Taylor (25) all played the part in two 30+ partnerships.  By close the team had reached a respectable 181 for 8.

In similar fashion the visitors start steady with an opening 26 partnership before moving on to 96 for 1.   Ricky Dale (5 for 22) and Ashley Bax (2 for 49) did the damage ably supported by Alan Hampton (2 for 23) as Frindsbury succumbed and were bowled out for 163 in the 41st over

In addition to Adam’s excellent performance this year the 1st XI came 4th a position they held since early June and Ricky Dale (46 wickets) and Owen Harrison (41 wickets) coming 3rd and 4th in the League’s bowling awards.

The 2nd travelled to Harvel with an outside chance of promotion.  Forced to elect to bat to maximise potential points the team started well with openers John Heatley (39) and Rob Kennett (29) playing patiently in difficult conditions getting the team to 86 at the half way mark.  This allowed Joe Mills to come out a score a quick fire 37 and set the scene for Linc Bryden (74) and Nick Page (24) to take the game away from Harvel as the team reached 236 for 6 in the allotted 46 overs

Harvel never really looked to chase down the runs and the first wicket fell at the 21 over mark to Glenn Kennett.  After drinks the bowlers got stuck into the batting line up with Glenn Kennett picking up 5 for 33 and well supported by Joe Mills (2 for 14),  Lee Cogger (2 for 34), Tyler Wassell (1 for 30) and Adam Rayner (0 for 21) meant that a full 20pts was gained as the home team were bowled out for 140 in the 43rd over.

Unfortunately the two teams above both won and the 2s remained in a very respectable 3rd place just outside of the promotion spot.  Another great season for the team and congratulations to John Heatley (342 runs)  who was 6th in the League’s batting award and Glenn Kennett (24 wickets) and Lee Cogger (23 wickets) who were 9th and 11th respectively in the bowling

The 3rd XI travelled to Rumwood and were put into to bat on a wet wicket.  Unfortunately only William Cosstick and Extras got into double figures with 14 a piece as the team was all out for 51.  Rumwood knocked of the runs in 16 overs losing only 1 wicket which was picked by Harry Mantle

The 3rd XI came 9th in the league winning 3 games in the season – a great effort and great to see colts being brought on and the game being played in great spirit

The Sunday XI entertained Woodchurch in the last league game of the season.  Put into bat wickets fell immediately against a very good bowling attack.  At 25 for 5 it looked like an early end to the season but a magnificent 75 from Captain James Sutton supported by William Cosstick (25) and the Chairman (16) at the end meant the team reached 160 for 9 in their allotted overs.

Wood church looked in control through out their innings and knocked of the runs in the 30th over with 8 wickets to spare.  Adam Larking (2 for 27) picking up the only two wickets.

The Sunday XI finished a respectable 10th place

The Chairman gets stitched for the second week in a row as Development Manager Arch leaves the Chairman for an hour to answer a large number of Clubmark questions from the inspector on Saturday morning using the excuse he had to go out and coach.   To be fair that is exactly what he should have done but it doesn’t stop me moaning !!!
