U15 colt Ethan Collier picked up 6 wickets at the weekend as the 3rd XI went on to chase down a target of 214

The 3XI travelled to Higham & Mockbeggar at the weekend and was put into the field by the home team. Ethan picked up three early wickets before the home team rallied with a good 4th wicket partnership and it took Paul Gilbert  (1 for 39) and Brian Carey (3 for 37) to remove the entrenched batsman.  The team fought back and Ethan on his returned bagged another 3 wickets and ending up with 6 for 37 off 9.5 overs.   Hingham & Mockbeggar had reached an impressive 214 all out with just 1 ball left in the innings

However, the target did not faze openers Simon Cosstick (78) and Nathan Glazier (86no) who put on a record opening partnership for the thirds of 149.  Nathan was supported by Tony Hadfield (14) and Paul Gilbert (15 no) as the team crossed the line with 5.2 overs and 7 wickets to spare.  A great all round effort by the team

The 1s entertained 2nd in the league Walmer who elected to bat.  Getting off to a strong start were 95 before the first wicket fell but Ricky Dale pegged them back picking up 5 for 50.  At the close of the innings a target of 239 had been set

Early wickets put pressure on the team but Ricky Dale once again stood up to the plate hitting a fine 92 – unfortunately wicket fell round him and it left Darrell Carter and Chris Knope to hold out the last 10 overs for a draw

The 2s travelled to top of the league Cowdrey – after some showers the game started on reduce overs and the team was put into bat.  James Weller fine run of form continued as he put on 57 before being caught and bowled.  James Sutton (19), Steve Pumfrett (19), Joe Mills (28), Nick Page (22), Lincoln Bryden (17) and John Heatley (15) all chipped in with double figures as the team reached 204 for 8 in their allotted 44 overs

Great opening spells from Owen Harrison (2 for 36) and Shiv Patel (2 for 28) put early pressure on the home team and at the half way stage were 75 for 2. For the second week in a row the batting team decided to block out and although 5 more wickets were picked up during the next 22 overs for just 47 runs they could not quite finish the job and the game ended in a winning draw.

The Sunday XI entertained Egerton in the KVL Div 1 match and the visitors elected to bat.  Another good opening spell from Owen Harrison (2 for 31) saw some early pressure but Egerton played themselves back in by the half way stage being 96 for 2 off 20 overs.  Captain Ricky Dale picked up 4 more wickets (4 for 28) supported by Tyler Wassell (2 for 33) Lee Taylor and the Chairman as the visitors collapsed and were all out for 134 in the 40th over.

Opener Steve Roberts was out in the first over but it took in form batsman Ricky Dale (61 no) and James Weller (60 no) only 22 more overs to knock off the runs as Bapchild cruised home with 9 wickets to spare

A great weekend and although two players took 5 wicket hauls, the Club surpassed last years number of fifties (32) by the end of July and record partnerships were formed the talk of the weekend came from Sunday’s game.  The Chairman at deepish mid on sprinted 20…. no …… 50 yds and pulled off an amazing catch while flat out on the run – news of this amazing feat has already spread through club (but hasn’t quite reached Australia and Pakistan!!) with many calling for the fielding trophy to be awarded now and not to wait to the end of the season. Fear not supporters I get to choose the winner anyway :)
