3rds in one run thriller


The 3rd XI held their nerve at the weekend by beating Rodmersham by just one run at the weekend

Entertaining local oposition Rodmersham the 3rd XI elected to bat first.  After losing an early wicket Nathan Glazier (44) and Steve Pumfrett (53) built a solid platform. Anthony Burbury and (30 no) and Ashley Hooker (13) supported well as the team reached 185 for 3 off their allotted 40 overs

Rodmersham started well but wickets from Ella Hadler (1 for 28) Shiv Patel (2 for 22) and Isabelle Julier (1 for 13) put the pressure on with some tight bowling.  Rodmersham middle order dug in and looked to be edging towards the win but 3 wickets from Anthony Burbury in 4 overs for just 22 runs swung the match back. Daniel Gunner bowled the last over with Rodmersham requiring 6 runs to win.   This was whittled down to just two off the last ball but Daniel held his nerve and bowled out the batsman to win the match by just the one run


The 2nd XI travelled Bromley Town and was put into field. The home team top seven all scored double figures but none were allowed to build a big score as wickets fell regularly and  they reached 187 for 9 off their allotted 46 overs with Glenn Kennett being the pick of the bowling with 4 for 36

Simon Cosstick (26) and Daniel Pumfrett (44) got the team off to a great start and supported by Chris Knope (31) and James Sutton (13).  Glenn Kennett (47 no) claimed man-of-the match as he and William Cosstick (19 no) reached the target with 8 balls and 6 wickets to spare


The 1st Team played top of the league Staplehurst and elected to bat first.  After a couple of early wickets Rob Kennett (49) Thomas Carey (37) re-grouped supported by Callum Leary (29).  Wickets continued to fall but a good stand between James Longhurst (29) and Tyler Wassell (16) helped the the team reach 185 for 8 off their 50 overs.

The team tried 8 bowlers to breakdown the Staplehurst top order but visitors reached the total comfortably with just under 14 overs and 8 wickets to spare


The Sunday XI were playing Challock but the opponents concede the game
