The 1st and 3rd XI teams both on at the weekend while the 2nd XI game out on the wrong side of another close game
The 1st XI were home to Ash CC as the leagues entered the second half of the season. Put in by the visitors openers James Weller (52) and Tom Carey (40) reached 88 before the loss of the first wicket. Wickets fell regularly with Rick Dale (22) and James Sutton chipping in pushed the score along but it was Joe Mills (34 no) and Josh Willis (35) in his first game of the season that added a flurry of runs at the end of the game as the team reached 218 for 6 off their allotted 45 overs.
Haris Khan (1 for 21) picked up an early wicket and Ricky Dale (4 for 23) removed the rest of the top order as the visitors found themselves 104 for 6. A good stand of 77 for the 7th wicket looked like Ash may turn the game round but a good caught and bowled by Tom Carey to remove the No. 4 batsman and a run out of their captain shortly afterwards left opposition requiring 12 from the last over. Pressure bowling from Joe Mills led to the final wicket fall to another run out as the team won by 9 runs.
The 2s travelled to Margate CC and unfortunately lost the toss on an “interesting” wicket. Simon Cosstick (14) and Nick Page (16) started well but wickets fell regularly with on ly William Cosstick (18) and Ben Wiebe-Williams (21) reaching double figures as the team was bowled out for 119 in the 35th over. Margate didn’t get all thier own way Ben Wiebe-Williams (3 for 31) and Adam Rayner (4 for 21) put on pressure but a good stand in the middle meant the home team managed two struggle home with just two wickets remaining. A good effort by the team and 12 valuable points picked up.
The 3rd XI were at home to Borstal and the visitors decided to bat. Going for their shots from ball one and some fine bowling from captain Linc Bryden (4 for 9) and Ella Hadler (1 for 15) took advantage of the aggressive batting. The visitors approach didn’t change with a change of bowling as Sophie Hogben (4 for 19) and Jay Sharma (1 for 23) completed the rout as Borstal found themselves all out for 67 in the 26th over.
Fielding highlight was Ella’s superb over-the-shoulder catch and at the other end of the spectrum was the captain returning to his default standard after two catches the previous week.
In reply Matt Lincoln (40 no) and Yuvraj Rajgor (15) started cautiously and then expanded their strokes, to ensure and early finish as the team won with 9 wickets and 21.5 overs to spare.
The Club then held a “Bad Shirt” and BBQ at the ground in the evening and we are not sure some of the shirts did just come from the wardrobe rather than being purchased for the night.
