bcc-bg1

The 1s and 2s won at the weekend while the 3s and Sunday team lost their nail biting games by one and seven runs respectively

The 1s were at home to Linton Park 1s at the weekend. Having won the toss the team elected to bat and Openers Tom Carey (82) and James Weller (28) got the team off to a strong start. Will Cosstick (18), Ricky Dale (16) and Nick Page (14) all made starts but couldn’t get going but the team reached a respectable 208 for 9 in their allotted 45 overs.

Tyler Wassell (1 for 16) made the early breakthrough but Linton dug in reaching 54 for 1 off 10 overs.   Harry Mantle and Tom Carey pegged back the scoring as the the opposition only put on 33 in the next 10 overs.  After the drinks break Ricky Dale took a sharp catch in the slips off Tom to remove one of the danger men and Harry bowled the new batsman 3 overs later with an unplayable ball.  Harry picked up his second when James Sutton picked up a sharp catch behind the stumps.  A changing of bowling at the top end saw Ricky Dale take the first of his 4 wickets (4 for 27) with his first ball which lead to Treegate as Linton found themselves 129 for 5 at 30 overs.  Ricky removed the opener trapping him LBW and the incoming batsman holed out to Tyler the next ball.   Dan Covey joined in the wickets and Linton found themselves 165 for 8 off 40 overs.   Their No. 10 tried to change the visitors fortunes hitting two large sixes over the club house but was caught on his third attempt by Will Cosstick deep in front of the Pavilion.   The last wicket fell to Dan shortly afterwards as Linton found themselves all out for 176 in the 44th over.

The 2s travelled to Holcombe and Bluebell Hill and was put into the field.   Ethan Collier (3 for 38) removed the top 3 after some stubborn resistance supported by Tom Gunner (0 for 31). Adam Rayner (2 for 23) picked up a brace and Ben Wiebe-Williams destroyed the lower middle an tail taking 4 for 18 as the home team went from 99 for 4 to 111 for 9.  Amith Lokesh need just 4 balls to finish the innings as H&BH found themselves all out for 115 in the 29th over.

After the break the home team kept it tight and wickets fell regularly.  Alan Hampton’s 26 and Amith Lokesh’s 16 would prove invaluable as 5 wickets fell for just 16 runs as Bapchild found themselves 96 for 9.  But Captain Adam Rayner (17 no) and Ben Gunner (2 no)  got team over the line in the 37th over.

The 3s were at home to Old Williamsonians and were put into the field.  Phil Danbury (0 for 16) and Ella Hadler (0 for 26) bowled well upfront but a change of bowling saw captain Linc Bryden pick up 4 for 28 off his nine overs supported well by Arryan Rajgor (1 for 30) at the other end.  Glenn Kennett (3 for 20) and George Ward (1 for 25) finished off a good bowling performance as the visitors reached 144 for 9 in their allotted 40 overs.

Bapchild got off to a very strong start as Chris Wood reached a half century before retiring supported by Arryan (29).   Tony Hadfield (31 no) played valiantly as did Caleb Deveson (12) but needing just 2 from the last two balls the team failed to cross the line losing by just one run.

It was a good and enjoyable game played in the right spirit and making sure everyone got involved was more important than the result.

The Sunday XI travelled to Wye looking for their 4th consecutive win of the campaign and was put into the field.  Ethan Collier (2 for 18) picked up two wickets from the outset. Ben Wiebe-Williams (2 for 27) and Aaryan Rajgor (1 for 20) also added pressure as the home team found themselves five down. The middle order dug in until Tom Carey (1 for 22) and Ella Hadler (1 for 11) removed the two stubbon batsman.  Once removed it took George Ward just seven balls to remove the last three batsman as he finished with figures of 3 for 6.   Wye had been bowled out for 155 at the start of the 38th over.

Bapchild lost a couple of early wickets but James Weller (53) and Tom Carey (52) put the team in a great position enough but being dismissed but Wye’s bowling was tight and taking regular wickets and the Bapchild run out of overs requiring just seven runs.

The U12s won their match against Faversham.
