Steve Pumfrett scored the first big knock of the year hitting an excellent hundred in a friendly against Rainham at the weekend

A late organised fixture against Rainham 3rd XI saw Bapchild bat first.  Losing a wicket in the first over saw Steve Pumfrett join Simon Cosstick in the middle with the score on 5.  Some powerful hitting saw the pair reach the 100 partnership in just 13 overs and Pumfrett reaching his 50 in just 32 balls.  Simon reached his 50 in a sedate 55 balls and the partnership reached 175 just 10 overs later.   Simon retired on 73 and Steve was joined by debutant Chris Knope.   Steve also retired on reaching his first century in 30 years (last was in 1986) in just 83 balls hitting 5 sixes and 12 fours.  Chris went on scoring 43 not out from 48 balls ably supported by James Sutton (16) and the other debutant Frank Francis (16 no).  The team scored 283 from their allotted 40 overs

The Chairman (1 for 18) and Neil Bloor (1 for 33) opened up the bowling after tea picking up a wicket each early on.  Rainham put on a small stand after being 2 for 7 which was finally broken by Anthony Burbury (3 for 54).  Frank Francis proved he was a batsman in his first two overs after a five year break but soon settled down and bowled well as did Ethan Collier and the cameo from captain James Sutton

At the end of 40 overs Rainham were 120 short with 5 wickets remaining

The first XI played Mote Park 2nd XI at home.  Adam Larking opened with another solid performance scoring a fine 68 and supported by Ricky Dale (40).   Tom Carey scored a fine 36 and the team reached 212 for 5 off their allotted overs.

Unfortunately the match was rained affected at home for the second week in a row and was abandoned with the visitors on 83 for 1 off 22 overs
