The first team stepped up to the mark in a must win Kent League game on Saturday

Travelling just down the road to Rodmersham everyone knew the result of the match was crucial as both teams were within two points of each other in the league table.

Bapchild won the toss and elected to bat getting off to a flying start as both openers Adam Larking (69) and Lee Taylor (62) racing to 124 before the first wicket fell.  Ricky Dale (52) joined in with the support of Tom Carey (48) who fell just short of ensuring the top four all reached half centuries.  Matt Lewis added 35 and the team reached an impressive 319 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs.

After tea it was time for the bowlers and Joshua Hunt (4 for 46) and Tyler Wassell (3 for 14 ) didn’t let the side down as they removed the top order quickly including an superb catch by Matt Lewis. Matt Roche joined the attacked also picking up three wickets (3 for 19) as the home team continued to collapse finding themselves 39 for 9.  A resistant 10th wicket partnership saw 40 runs put on but the tail finally succumbed to Matt in the 26th over and the team won by an impressive 223 runs and gained 20 important points

The 2nd XI entertained 3rd place Hartley at Radfield Hill. Electing to bat the team got off to a good start from owners James Weller (31) and Rob Kennett (21).  Steve Pumfrett hit an impressive 80 and with the rest of the team chipping in the team reached 240 for 7 of their allotted 46 overs.

After tea the visitors all though scoring well reaching 78 for 2 in the first 15 overs decided to shut the door early and although captain Nick Page threw 8 bowlers in to the attack at close of play the visitors had reached 193 for 3 leading the twos with a winning draw.

The 3rd XI played the other half of the double header against Rodmersham and put the visitors into bat at SCC. the going was tough for the bowlers as Rodmersham reached 225 for 5 in their allotted 40 overs with Callum Harrison who stepped in just two hours before the match picking up a brace (2 for 33)

After tea Simon Cosstick (52) got the team off to a good start with William Cosstick (15), Kevin Coles (25), Paul Gilbert (24) and Tony Hadfield (26) the team made a valiant effort falling just 31 runs short of the target at the end of their overs.

Three great performances set the club up for a brilliant night back at Radfield Hill as the summer BBQ also became Jug Night !! It was also lovely to see some colts and their parents at the ground and a big thank you chef Eric, Shirley and Theresa who worked hard providing some lovely food

May the sun continue to shine ….. great club !
