Harry’s 5 for 15 helps secure opening win for 1s

Harry Mantle took 5 for 15 on the first game of the season to secure the 1st XI first win of the 2023 campaign.

The 1st had reversed venues with Borstal due to the recent weather making Radfield unplayable.  Borstal won the toss and elected to field and picked up the wicket of Captain Matt Lewis early on as a result.  Tom Carey also opened scoring 26. No batsman really got going but a fine 37 from Mike Willis supported by brother Josh (15) and Will Cosstick (17 no) the team reached 161 for 8 in their allotted 45 overs.

After the interval Tyler Wassell (1 for 9) bowled the opener for 0 while harry run the other opener put. Ricky Dale put the pressure on the other end bowling 9 overs for just 15 runs.  The pressure paid off when changing of bowling with Harry picking up his 5 for 15 off 8.2 overs and supported well by Kesha Rajadurai who took 2 for 20 in his 9 overs. Will Cosstick picked up the other wicket as the home team found themselves all out for 77 and a win for Bapchild 1s by 84 runs

 

The Sunday XI had an away friendly against Stockbury & Hartlip and decided to bat.  Tom Carey scored a fine 95 not out,  supported by James Weller (13), Jacob Carter (15) and Ella Hadler (10) as the team reached 175 for 7 in their 35 overs.

Ethan Collier (1 for 4 off 6 overs) and Tom Gunner (2 for 5 off 4 overs) opened the bowling and picked up early wickets. Ollie Julier ran out the opener and went on to take 2 for 2 off 5 overs.  Haris Khan (1 for 3) Jacob Carter (2 for 18), Anthony Burbury (1 for 1) and Ella ( 5 overs for 2 runs) all bowled well and the home team succumbed to being all out for 40 runs in the 34 over
