The traditional end of season Chairman’s match took place on the the 8th September.
Two team’s, the Chairman’s Clubbers and Sutton’s Swingers fought out two matches over the day
Captain James Sutton won the toss and elected (was told) to bat in the first game which was a T20 match 12-a-side match. Owen Harrison showed his intention hitting 4 off the first ball but succumbed to Ethan Collier a couple of balls later. Everyone chipped with Ricky Dale retiring on 30, Ashley Bax (22) Tyler Wassell (17) and James Sutton (12) all reaching double figures. Izzy Julier also chipped in with 8 not out. The team reached 127 for 6 off their allotted overs.
James Weller (32 ret) opened with the Chairman who was at the non-stirkers end for the first ball – excellent calling from his partner meant he was run out by two yards without facing a ball. Poor or kind umpiring meant the Chairman stayed in but was completely bamboozled by Luke Whitehouse and was clean bowled the next ball for 0. Again everyone chipped in with Lee Taylor (18) and Adam Larking (22) getting double figures they were ably supported by the likes of Ella Hadler (8). The game went down to the last over and a wicket on the first ball meant 5 runs were need with 5 balls and one wicket standing. The Clubber’s reached the target with one ball to spare
After tea at the second game commenced, an 18 over pairs cricket match, with the Clubbers batting – the first pair of Anthony Burbury/Lee Cogger put on 21 for 1 in their three overs. The Chairman did better second time around being paired with Steve Roberts scoring 28 for 1, while the pairings of Lee Taylor/Ella Hadler (26 for 0) and Ethan Collier/James Weller (26 for 1) meant the team reached 163 for 7 giving a final total of 128 to chase
The Swinger’s looking for the first win opened with Nathan Glazier/Luke Whitehouse and while scoring 23 lost 3 wickets. Daniel Gunner/Owen Harrison (32 for 2) and Ashley Bax/Tyler Wassell (36 for 1) all added to the score but many of the remaining pairs lost valuable wickets. The Swinger’s final ended on 130 for 11 giving a final total of 75 and a second winner for the Chairman’s Clubbers
The event was attended by over 70 players, members and supporters who enjoyed some great home hot food provided by Mrs Chairman, Mel Hawkes, Christine Pumfrett and Shirley Lidstone. A great day to end the season.
