Bapchild v Bapchild Indoor – Close Game

Bapchild 1st & 2nd Indoor Teams

Bapchild 1st and 2nd Indoor Teams played each other in the Swale League which turned out to be a close game.

The 1st team batted first and scored quickly early on until a good run out from “veteran” Steve Hogg dismissing Steve Roberts (24 – runs not age) who was just one short of retiring. Captain James Sutton did reach 25 shortly afterwards and on retiring brought Adam Rayner (19) and Robert Kennett (25 ret) to the middle. Both batted well until a fantastic caught and bowled by Brandon Glen dismissed Adam. With Robert then retiring brought the Harrison Twin (Simon (3 no) and Owen (13 no) together to bring the total to 128.

The twos got off to a slower start losing Brendan (2) early.  Tom Carey (19) batted well until being cleaned up with a straight well flighted ball from Owen. Chris Hogg (8) fell shortly afterwards to another fantastic catch this time by Steve Roberts behind the stumps.  With the twos well behind the run rate the “Cousins” (Tyler Wassell and Harry Mantle) stood and delivered both reaching 25 in very short time.   One over to go with Steve Hogg and Tyler at the wicket needing 12 runs to win. Six off the first two balls put the twos in a good position but an amazing one stump run out by Owen followed by two dot balls meant 5 runs were need off the last ball – or was it 4 ?? As confusion reigned amongst the two teams and the excited crowd the last ball saw three runs scored – was it a draw or had the first team won by one run !!!

The officials confirmed it was a win for the first team but in reality the club were the winners as the game had been played in the right spirit with some excellent cricket
