Bapchild Cricket Club

A Weekend of “Twos”

Bapchild Mini 8s team - June 2018

This weekend saw a double header, two wins on Saturday, two centuries, two records, two wins on Sunday and some pretty bad two stepping !!

The 1st XI played Offam Ones at home on Saturday and elected to bat. Once again the top order did their job with Adam Larking (64) and Tom Carey (majestic 125) opened up with 145 run partnerhip.  Captain Ricky Dale chipped in with 43 and Lee Taylor (54no) putting on a half century.  The team reached 302 for 3 off their allotted 50 overs.

Owen Harrison (4 for 55) picked up an early wicket with good support from Harry Manatle (1 for 36) but again the top order scored runs as the opposition put a 60 and 106 run partnership for the next two wickets.  Alan Hampton (2 for 55) got the through and with good support from Ricky Dale, Matt Lewis and a returning Owen Harrison Offham only reached 263 for 9 at the end of their innings

Dan Pumfrett scored the 2nd Centruy of the weekend as the 2nd XI travelled to Offham in the second of the double header.  Also electing to bat the openers almost carried their bat through the innings as Dan scored 137 no with partner Rob Kennett just missing out on a maiden century on 96 in a 265 run partnership.  The team reached 272 for 1 equalling the record score for a Bapchild CC 2XI Kent League total.   The opening partnership of 265 was a 2nd XI record as was Dan’s 137 runs beating an individual Bapchild CC 2nd XI Kent League highest score by 30 runs.

After the games the Club held it’s first band night for number of years with The Strides travelling down from London to entertain around 70 people which also included Robin (Eric’s father-in-law) who was celebrating his 80th Birthday. A great time was had by all as the band played a varied set which had some of the lads doing their famous two stepping.

The 3XI had no game this week and the Sunday Xi unfortunately had to concede the game

On Sunday a Bapchild mini 8s team travelled to BlueBell Hill for one of the round robin tournaments.   The young team played extremely well winning two out of three matches and now stand an excellent chance of qualifying for finals day. Well done every one the club is extremely proud of your achievements.
