Top of the league and unbeaten Sherwood entertained Bapchild U12 Broncos at their ground in Rochester last Thursday. Broncos captain Adesh Smith won the toss and elected to bowl first on a true but lively artificial track where runs should have been plentiful but the Bapchild team had other ideas. Pick of the bowlers were Sophie Hogben and Henry Louden who conceded very few runs off their respective 3 over spells with tight accurate bowling. Adesh Smith captained the Bapchild team superbly well encouraging players and making minor adjustments to his field during the innings with good effect. Sherwood ended their innings on 266 for 4.
Bapchild Broncos batted steadily throughout and were always behind the run rate losing wickets at steady intervals with some great catches being taken in the field by the home team. With just one over to go Bapchild needed 14 runs, which seemed a tall order, to win the game. Winston Roe faced the first three balls scoring a 2, then smacking a sublime 4 through point and before scrambling a single. Aaryan Rajgor then hit a 2 followed by a superb 4 pulled through square leg to tie the scores with one ball to go. A nudge into a gap and a fast scramble off the last ball saw the Broncos get home by a whisker to win their first game of the season. A great advert for youth cricket played by two excellent teams on the night. The game could have gone either way and was very enjoyable to watch and play in for players and spectators alike. Well done to all involved, you were a credit to each of your clubs .
