Threes almost snatch win

bcc-bg1

The 3rd XI almost won in a low scoring match against Hunton Wanderers.

The Third XI travelled to Hunton playing against their usual strong first XI.   On winning the toss stand-in captain Tom Carey elect to bat and opened the batting with Ethan Collier.  Unfortunately wickets fell regularly with only Tom Fox (12) in at number eleven reaching double figures with Bapchild finding themselves all out for 55 in the 25th over

It seemed an early finish but Hunton feeling confident changed their batting order.   However, opening bowlers Owen Harrison and Ashley Bax did not give them any easy time. The two home team openers managed to just reach double wickets before wickets fell as regularly as they did in the first innings. An outstanding 6 overs by Owen saw him pick up his 2nd Senior 5 wicket haul for the season and he finished his limited six over spell 5 for 17 including his first senior hat-trick.   Ashley supporting at the other end picked up 3 for 27 and the only when the forced change of bowling happened did the pressure from the exceptional attack eased slightly and Hunton crossed the line in the 16th over with just two wickets to spare.

A great fight back by the whole team.

The First XI were at home to Top of the Table Catford Wanderers and elected to field on a dampish overcast afternoon.   Unfortunately Catford’s Oversees opener was dropped on nought and went on to score 76 as the visitors built a steady platform reaching 185 for 4 off 40 overs. Ricky Dale (1 for 52) and Michael Willis (3 for 51) bowling good spells in the middle.  Joe Mills (3 for 12) joined the attack just as Catford start their final push picking up three weeks for very little and the opposition found themselves on 241 for 8 at the end of their allotted overs.

After tea the team found confident having restricted Catford to below 250. However, their opener bowler who was playing Premier last year had something different to say.  A good spell including a three wicket maiden meant Bapchild found themselves 16 for 6 off 12 overs.  Joe Mills (19) and Matt Lewis (12) put on a small stand as did Michael Neame (15) and Tyler Wassell (10) at the end but they were never able recover fully and the team was all out in the 21st over for 76.

The Twos came was conceded by the opposition
