A hot but thundery weekend brought mixed results for Bapchild
The Saturday 1st Team travelled to Bexleyheath. Bexleyheath elected to bat – Bapchild started strong with Adam Rayner taking three wickets early on and supported by Matt Roche and Alex Ward had the home team 52 for 4. Unfortunately a 5th wicket stand of 135 saw Bexleyheath move into the driving seat finishing on 247 for 9 dec in the 50th over.
Lee Taylor (48) got Bapchild off to a good start with support from Dylan Lee (25) and at 78 for 2 the team felt confident. Unfortunately wickets began to fall and despite good knocks from Joe Mills (26) and a 47 10th wicket stand from Alex Ward (35) and Matt Roche (24), Bexleyheath took the last wicket on the final ball of the match with Bapchild only 22 runs short
The 2nd XI were home to Mersham Sports and on winning the toss electing to bat. Cameron Archbold opened and scored 31 on his return from University. After the two openers were dismissed a fourth wicket stand between captain Nicholas Page (43) and Matt Lewis (43) of 70 runs set the team up for a big score. Not to let down the side Simon Cosstick (27), Mark Forshaw (16) and Tyler Wassell (34) saw the home team reach 224 for 6 off their allotted overs with the last two batsman scoring an impressive 32 off the last over.
The Bapchild opening bowlers started well picking up wickets regularly and apart from a small rear guard action from Mersham’s middle order the visitors were finally bowled out for 189 in the 44th overs (Tyler Wassell 3 for 25)
The 3rd XI did not fair well on a wet home pitch at SCC that seamed around found themselves bowled out for 55. Gore Court knocked the runs off winning by 8 wickets. Owen Harrison bowled well picking up 2 for 20 off his five overs.
Sunday saw the 1st away to Sheldwick who the previous week had scored 300 runs at home. Winning the toss Bapchild elected to bat a excellent knock from Dylan Lee (78) supported by Joe Cooper (22), Cameron Archbold (19), Ricky Dale (17) and Josh Hunt (15) saw the team reach 196 for 9 off their allotted overs.
Good bowling from Joshua Hunt and Harry Mantle who dismissed the two danger men early on saw Sheldwich always chasing the game. Ricky Dale picked up three wickets and Tyler Wassell (4 for 26) finished the game by taking three wickets in one over and bowling the home team out for 127
