All three teams managed to finish their games before Saturday’s torrential rain arrived.
The 1s travelled to Tonbridge and elected to field first. Tyler Wassell (1 for 29) picked his usual early wicket but the rest of the home team’s top order dug in until a run out from Haris Kjan and two wickets from Tom Carey (3 for 31) cleared the danger. Ricky Dale (1 for 22) and Dan Covey (2 for 21) and Joe Mills (1 for 7) all picked up wickets and Harry Mantle ended Tonbridge’s innings with a runout with the score on 154 at the end of the 35th over.
Tom unfortunately picked up his second piece of platinum of the season as the team lost three early wickets. Nick Page (38), Ricky Dale (21), Tyler Wassell (15) and Joe Mills (14) put the team in to contention but the 1s found themselves all out 20 runs short of the total.
The 2s were at home to Upchurch and it was agreed to play a 32 over match due to the pending rain. The 2s chose to bat and Yuvraj Rajgor (23) and Paul Surridge (12) got the team of to a solid start. Wickets fell regularly until captain Adam Rayner (32 no) and Ethan Collier (18) put a good partnership and ensuring they reached 142 for 7 in their allotted overs.
Upchurch openers also made a strong start until Ethan Collier (1 for 21) made the initial breakthrough. The second wicket came with the score on 49 as a change bowling saw Paul Surridge taking a good catch on the second attempt off Ben Wiebe-Williams. (2 for 19). Ben picked up his second wicket through an LBW as the score reached 53. Upchurch still looked comfortable batting sensibly and keeping up with the run rate but Alan Hampton (3 for 7) picked up a wicket just before the break with the score on 97. Adam Rayner (4 for 20) opened his account just after the break followed by a superb reaction diving catch from Alan Hampton of his bowling shortly afterwards. Alan and Adam bowled well and when Tom Gunner picked up his second catch to end the match with Upchurch all out 23 runs short of the total at the start of the 28th over. The rain hit only 10 minutes later.
The 3s travelled to Sheppey and agreed a 30 over match before the start. Winning the toss the team decided to field. Opener Phil Danbury (4 for 30) ripped through top order supported by Linc Bryden (1 for 8). A change of bowling saw Ella Hadler (3 for 21) tighten the screws even further with good support from Aryan Rajgor. Good bowling from Glenn Kennett (1 for 7) and George Ward (0 for 10) at the end of the innings saw the home team restricted to 103 for 9 off their 30 overs.
James Sutton (24) got the team off to a good start and Glenn Kennett (13) continued the good work until holing out at mid-on. Linc Bryden (19) and Kev Miles (18 no) whittled the score down until Bryden succumbed to some intimidating bowling from a Sheppey junior. Ella came to the middle and slog swept a lovely four to ease any team nerves and Kev Miles produced a glorious off-drive to win the match by 5 wickets.
